Alice Cox Obituary

Alice Elizabeth (Kahn) Cox

Alice Elizabeth (Kahn) Cox passed away September 26, 2024. She was 96 years old. She was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on April 22, 1928 (her Dad's birthday) to Harry and Charlotte (Helmer) Kahn.

She graduated from Blume High School in 1946. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University for one year and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in English, her major was Speech and Drama. This is also where she met her husband.

She married C. David Cox, Jr. of Lima Ohio, on June 24, 1951, at the First English Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta, Ohio. They lived in Columbus, then moved to Toledo in 1955, where they lived the rest of their lives.

Alice taught debate and English at Newark High School before she was married. Then taught at Cridersville Junior and Senior High School and Crestview Junior High in Columbus, while her husband was in law school. She taught English and was the drama coach at Woodward High School after they moved to Toledo. In later years she was a substitute teacher at Springfield High School.

Her true passion was her family. She loved her husband and being a mom to her 5 children. She was the best mom-always there for her kids. She loved being a grandma to her 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren- spending time with them and attending their events.

Alice was a charter member of the Toledo Bar Auxiliary, was a girl scout leader and was active for many years at her children's schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Maumee, Ohio.

Her interests included gardening, reading and traveling with family in later years. When Dave was alive they attended many Ohio State football games with friends and traveled to New England and Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii, Europe, California and Florida. She especially liked spending time at their second home in Michigan.

She will be remembered for her love of her family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. David Cox, Jr., in 1998; and her parents, Harry and Charlotte Kahn. She is survived by her 5 children, Diana (Chuck -dec) Pierce of Waterloo, IN, Judith (Dwight -dec) Biggar of Lusby, MD, Cathy (Jerry) Kloster of Ft. Wayne, IN, David Cox of Toledo, OH, and Beth Heminger of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Andrea Pierce, Haley (Philip) Russo, Sara Pierce; Reid Kloster, Madison Kloster, Will Pierce, Morgan Kloster, Lila Catherine (Russ) Biggar-Lehart, Mollie Kloster and Carolyn Elizabeth Biggar; and 3 great grandchildren, Carter, Sevana, and Karson.

To the Cox family:
I am SO sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. She was such a huge part of my childhood, from the Halloween parties in elementary school she threw for Beth, the infamous Cox parties and especially the trips to Boyne that Julie and I went on with Beth - she was like a second mom to me. I was fortunate enough to see & visit with her a few years back when Beth, Julie and I had a little reunion. The joy on her face said it all. As an adult I see how much her life was about her children and I can´t thank you all enough for letting that beautiful woman love me just a smidgen of how she loved you all. There is SO much more I could say about her - the memories are abundant. May your mom and dad rest in eternal peace and please know she will always live on. Love and condolences to you all....especially my Bethy. I will always love her and keep her close to my heart.
