Andrew KAMINSKI Obituary

KAMINSKI

Andrew S.

Andy teed off on the first hole with the wind at his back on June 19, 1925. He was dropped off at the course by his father, Stanley (Chuck Stone) Kaminski and mother Rose Kaminski who did not get to see him complete his round. The early part of his front nine included attendance at Central Catholic High School; service in the Merchant Marines in Europe aboard the S.S. Put-In-Bay during WWII and the beginning of his employment at Toledo Scale where he stayed for 44 years. He was also employed during this time at Coca Cola Bottling Co. for 20 years.

By the time the front nine was over, he completed his foursome when he married S. Jane Birner on November 27, 1948, and added sons Charles and Michael (Cathryn) who will have to play on without him. The foursome became an outing on the back nine with the addition of granddaughters, Regina Scalio (Patrick Lodge), Michelle (David) Poeppelmeier, Nicole (Jeremy) Graves; brother-in-law, Robert (Heidi) Birner; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Chloe Scalio; father, Michael Scalio, David and Libby Poeppelmeier, Austin and Addison Graves and loving dog, Brutus.

Players who did not complete the outing include father-in-law, Joseph Birner; mother-in-law, Ethel Birner, and brother-in-law, Arthur Birner. When not on the course, Andy could be found listening to or watching the Detroit Tigers and Lions games or out hitting fly balls to his boys behind DeVilbiss High School. In later years he attended many Green Rooster/Meredith Party Rental Softball Games and Toledo Rocket Football and Basketball games. After retirement he enjoyed the monthly Toledo Scale Breakfasts.

Andy's round ended on February 28, 2013, and he is now waiting for the TARPS bus to take him to the 19th hole at Carmel's Mexican Restaurant for his margarita; no salt with ice on the side. Special thanks to the staff at TARPS and Carmels for taking great care of him.

The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of The Toledo Hospital SICU for the care and understanding he was given. Thank you also to the nurses at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice for gently easing him on to his next outing where he will join up with old friends Sobbie, Stan, Beans, Coogan, Ray and many others for a Heavenly Hot Dog Open. Have fun Dad and as usual hit them not far but straight. Nobody better say "nice putt" until the ball hits the bottom of the cup! You will be missed.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 3, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Epsicopal Church, 2770 W. Central Ave, Toledo, OH with burial service following at Toledo Memorial Park 6382 Monroe St. Sylvania, OH. A luncheon will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church Parish Hall. Jane, Chuck and Mike, I am very sorry for your loss. I remember may good times when we were growing up in the neighborhood. We were very fortunate to have such a wonderful 1950's Jermain Drive group.

Chuck, Mike, and the entire Kaminski family,
Our deepest sympathies go out to each of you. Andy was a great guy and Dad and I always enjoyed our rounds of golf with you at Tamaron, Detwiler, the Cascades, etc. Stan and I were there on the first green, Chuck, when you said "Nice putt,Dad" and the ball stopped short! Great memories of fun times.
The obit was really well-written and appropriate. Andy raised you well and was always proud of you both with right
reason. He was a very good man with a great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Sadly, we are out of town and can't be there for the services. God bless you all.

Aunt Jane,
The Zurawski family is in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. He was a great God father to me and I find it very fitting that we both shared the same birthday! With love from St. Petersburg Florida.
