Ann Lindsley Obituary

Ann Lindsley

January 11, 1942 - August 6, 2025

Ann Lindsley, a lifelong advocate for peace, justice, and compassion, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at Ebeid Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was 83.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on January 11, 1942, Ann made Toledo, Ohio, her home for most of her adult life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend.

To her family and friends, Ann was a source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love. She always sought to bring people together, to mend fences and make new friends. Her presence brought warmth and joy, and her kindness lifted those around her. She appreciated life's small joys and great miracles. To be around her was to absorb her joie de vivre, or love of life. Small talk was not important to her. Ann wanted to really know each person she met and to have those deep talks that lead you to truly understand another person.

A French teacher by profession and a teacher of life by example, Ann's passions were many. She found joy in gardening, traveling the world, walking with friends, teaching tai chi, leading Taizé worship, working with children, and giving her time and energy to those in need. Her deep spiritual life was reflected in her active involvement with her church and her quiet, steady commitment to caring for the Earth and loving all of God's people.

Ann lived her life by the example of Jesus, grounded in the belief that the greatest commandment is to love God - and to love others as we love ourselves. She felt drawn to St Francis of Assisi who found God in all things and loved them joyfully, without limits and without self-importance. She lived a life of purpose and simplicity, finding God in nature, flowers, animals and the kindness of people.

Ann is survived by her husband, David Lindsley; her children, Kelly (John) Gobrogge and Tracy (Neil) Cummings; her grandchildren, Jenna (Tom) Hart, Jeremy, Dylan, Lily, and Mia; and her great-grandson, Jack. She is also survived by her siblings, Janice Cannistraro, Wendy Gunn, Laurie Foster, Dave Copson, Tilin Foster, and Tilan Copson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Ann's life will be held on Saturday, August 9th, at 10:00 a.m., at Sylvania United Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sylvania United Church of Christ or the American Friends Service Committee, in honor of Ann's lifelong dedication to service and peace.

My big sister Ann chose love, and led me through life with love. I am missing her very very much, but because her legacy of commitment to holding our family together, finding our truths, and her love for all of us, I feel her presence, and am forever grateful. I was also very blessed to be amongst her very dear family during this difficult time. May peace tenderly embrace Ann's beautiful family as we all carry her memory close in our hearts.
