Anne Schwertfeger Obituary
Anne (Donham) Schwertfeger
Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Anne (Donham) Schwertfeger, left this world to enter the Kingdom of Heaven on December 19, 2022. Although she had been fighting a chronic illness for the past several years, her death was sudden and unexpected. Anne was born in the hills of Southeastern Kentucky, June 25, 1937.
Anne was the youngest of ten children born to Waldon and Martha (Lewis) Asher. After attending college in Berea, Kentucky, she moved to Monroe, Michigan, where she met and married her first husband, Richard Donham. Together they spent the next twenty-three years together raising their three children, Richard, Julia, and Mark. Upon her husband Richard's death, she opened her own business Phoenix Temporary Services in 1988, and proudly grew it to one of the most successful independently owned staffing companies in Northwest Ohio and Southeastern Michigan. She later married her second husband, Robert Schwertfeger, of Rossford, Ohio, and began a thirty-two year journey together sharing a love of traveling, socializing with friends, Michigan football, Hilton Head Island, and the Ottawa Hills community they lived in.
Anne's most significant hobbies included golf, primarily at the Sylvania Country Club where she and Robert were long time members, and birdwatching by observing the ever-present feathered visitors at her back yard feeders. Her love for travel and new experiences were only surpassed by the dedication she had for family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph, Ova, Henry, Oscar, Paul; sisters, Polly, Opha, Mary, Maultie; daughter, Julia; husbands, Richard and Robert. Anne is survived by her sons, Richard and Mark; daughter-in-law, Kelly (Richard); six grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, Emily, Marcus, Ashley, Benjamin; and great-grandchildren, Asher, Calista, Emmaline, Ethan, and Mira.
The family would like to acknowledge special thanks to Dr. Matthew Pianko and the team at the Rogel Cancer Center, University of Michigan, the Neuro ICU at Promedica Hospital Toledo, and her best friend, Sue Travor; for their care and support of Anne during her extended and also most recent health battles.
