Asia Peterson Obituary

MR. ASIA J. PETERSON

Mr. Peterson, 85, affectionately known as Granddad, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania, OH. He was born to Mr. And Mrs. David and Ruthie Peterson on January 23, 1932, in Rison, Arkansas. He was a proud U.S Army veteran who earned a Marksmanship Sharp Shooter Badge and Purple Heart, among other medals, serving as a Sergeant in the Korean War. After his time in the military, AJ worked as a superintendent for the Toledo City Refuse Collection, retiring after 30 years of service. He married the love of his life, the late Edithe Peterson, on October 31, 1954; from this union came two sons, Ronald "Ronnie" and William "Billy" Peterson. AJ and his wife Edithe started a business together called AJ's Investments; they were very successful in this endeavor.

AJ served on the Usher Board at Southern Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years until his health failed him. AJ was instrumental in the Robert P. Wormely Multi-Purpose Building Special Pledge Fund. This pledge fund was suggested by AJ Peterson and put together by Deacon Elgie Summers. AJ wanted to leave a legacy for our children and ancestors, plus pay off the Multi-Purpose Building. AJ was a kind, loving man with a gentle spirit who really loved his family. He was always there when anyone called, offering a listening ear or helping hand. AJ's smile was enough to lighten any room, and his presence humbled many hearts. He was a man of many special traits. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. His recipes brought everyone together—just as he wanted—laughing, sharing, and raving over the deliciousness of his food.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his beloved wife, Edithe; three brothers, Ardie, Willie, and Melvin Peterson; and sister, Julie Mae Wynn. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Ronald (Yolanda) Peterson, William Peterson, and Kaven Sims; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lottie Jean Ross and Jo Ruth Richmond, both of Flint, MI; five brothers, David (Ollie), Paul (Wanda), Johnnie (Geraldine), Orea (Elizabeth), and Roy (Lynne) Peterson, all of Flint, MI; special friends, Les and Chris Harper, and a host of loving relatives, friends, and Southern Baptist family. Visitation/Wake will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Southern M.B. Church, 1222 Indiana Avenue 43607 with Funeral Services at 11 a.m. The Reverend Roger Carson, Pastor. The Reverend Tim Pettaway, Eulogist.
