Barbara Turski Obituary

TURSKI
Barbara A. “Bushie”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the best mom in the world. Our mom was called to heaven to be with her husband and our dad on August 17, 2016, who she missed so dearly. She passed away surrounded by love.
Mom was born on October 12, 1942, to Wilbert and Helen Recknagel whom preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She and dad (James Turski) were married on January 25, 1964. They shared 28 wonderful years and raised four beautiful and spiritual children together until dad's passing in December, 1992. Mom always recognized her unconditional and faithful love for her husband of 52 years of marriage. After graduation mom took work at The Toledo Blade. In 1964, she began her career as a stay- at-home mom. Once we were grown, she went back to work for Toledo Public Schools for 26 years at Cherry Preschool as a teacher's aide.
We Turski kids never went hungry because mom loved to cook, always showing her love with a good Polish dinner, a holiday feast, or a plain homemade sloppy joe by the pool with her granddaughters. She always offered help to volunteer dishes for the St. John's Funeral Lucheon. Mom loved to shop for all things Americana, decorating and displaying the stars and stripes was a passion. She loved planting red, white, and blue flowers throughout her landscape, with help from her granddaughters, aka her “Girlfriends”.
Left to cherish Barb's memory are her children, James (Shelly) Turski, Jamilyn (Greg) Foster, Jennifer (Todd) Perkins, and Jeffrey (Jane) Turski; granddaughters and lights of her life, Katilyn, Emily, Claire, Grace, Lily, Maxine, Emilee, Meredith, and Brooke; brother, William (Judy) Recknagel; sister-in-law, Linda (James) Karns; and niece, Stacey Recknagel.
A special thank you from the family to Dr. DeeAnn Bialecki-Haase, Christene Ludwig, all the caring and wonderful ladies at the Vibrant Life Senior Living, and to all the special people with ProMedica Hospice. All of you have the gift of love and compassion.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH. Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016, in the funeral home then proceeding to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Father David Cirata will be officiating. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
Contributions in Barbara's memory can be made to St. Ursula Academy or the American Heart Association.

Miss Barb, as I called her, was a phenomenal woman. She taught at Cherry School with my mother and watched my sister and I grow from toddlers to young women. She was a wonderful educator with a warm smile. Miss Barb quickly became a family friend and confidant. She came to my third birthday party and gifted me with little index cards for me to practice my letter writing. Little did she know that I would continue to use notecards to study into my high school and college days. Miss Barb will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with her family during this very difficult time.
