Bernie was a fantastic person. We both grew up with him all through are childhood and high school days. He thought we were all crazy the day we all left the high school gym and the entire Sylvania class of 1970 seniors took a long walk around the block. He laughed at us knowing how we all were. He was a great man and friend to many of us. Are prayers and thougts are with all of his wonderful family members. Please know that Bernie was a great person. We last saw Bernie in the the summer of 2000 during our high school reunion where we both shared breakfast with him one morning. Oh the memories. May God Bless him and all of his family

My condolences to all the family. Bernie was a good friend of my husband, Dennis Breneman, Sr. Dennis was injured in an automobile accident and was disabled and Bernie always kept in touch to make sure both he and I were doing okay as well as our children. As our son wrote you, he took our son under his wing and he taught him how to hunt and took him hunting. He was a good, true friend and we will miss him. I know he will be watching over all his family and friends from his home in heaven and he will be waiting for us there. God bless all of his family.

I first met Bernie and Rita after his retirement. They used to have breakfast at the Orginal Hot Dog on Secor and I was always impressed on how attentive Bernie was for his wife, children and grand children. It was my good fortune and luck to be acquainted with he and Rita. He was truly a good man and he will be missed.

Yes, he was a caring officer and showed compassion when stopping me for speeding but allowed me a warning since I was late and my kindergarden child was locked out of the house. A real role model for those he served.

My sympathy goes out to the family and the community of friends Bernie had. His passing will leave a big void in everyone's heart.

Bernie seemed to bring a smile no matter where he went whether it was on duty or off. He always had a lite side even when he was muddy (while riding go carts @ Memmorial Field or bringing hot chocolate to Ray West Hill while my family was sledding). A no truer friend could be found. He was fun loving and sincere and will be missed by all.

When I was young my dad wanted to take me hunting but couldn't because he is disabled. I don't know how it happend for sure but somehow I got hooked up with Bernie and he took me hunting. Bernie is the one who taught me to hunt. He and I would go out alone and hunt for hours. A few times I remember I went with his sons. We always had a great time.

Bernie was one of the frendliest pepole I have ever met. Bringing back these memories gives me a chance to tell my children of what a great man Bernie was.

I will miss him.

Officer Bernie Graczyk

Bernie was an integral person who cared about his family, his job and his friends. He was an honest, hard working and dedicated police officer. He was also very brave. In November, 1972, I answered a call of a man with a rifle at a residence in Sylvania. Bernie was my partner. When I arrived at the house I made a mistake and broke cover too soon. Bernie arrived and told me to keep this man busy anyway I could. I argued with the man while Bernie worked his way closer and closer and eventually grabbed the guy. We were able to subdue this man without firing a shot. Bernie risked his life on that November day for others. No one can ask more from him than he gave on that day.

Bernie, Penn Dallas and I talked about that incident and except for that, I don’t think Bernie ever mentioned it again. He went right back to being friendly with kids and residents and making young police officers into better people.

I hope, at this moment, Bernie is having coffee with Rita and asking her if he could go to the golf course.
