Beverly BACON Obituary

BACON Beverly Beverly Bacon left her earthly confines to be with God on March 25, 2010. She was born to Edith and Perry Bacon on September 7, 1914, in Archbold, OH. In 1932, she graduated Archbold High School and was fortunate enough to attend college in Iowa during the great depression. After school, she moved to Toledo with her sister and they each began their respective careers. When not working, Beverly enjoyed billiards and bowling. She earned many trophies over the years for her skills. In the 1960's, she even served as the secretary of the Professional Bowling Association. She also made beautiful crafts, like her famous ceramic cats. Beverly was devoted to her family. She took her nieces and nephews to movies and day trips like Cedar Point and so much more. After her father passed, Beverly took her mother in and they lived together until she passed, too, at 102. Starting in the 1950's, she sponsored a child through a Christian charity foundation from his early childhood through graduation. She gave quite a lot to other charities, too, but always held a special place in her heart for the orphan. Beverly's favorite care was her Camaro. She bought one when they first came out and then every couple years until her last one in 1983. One of her favorite stories to share was of she and her mother driving her '74 home in a snowstorm from Cleveland, when they were happened upon by a police officer, who was shocked to see two little old ladies driving such a sporty car. She always made people smile! Beverly retired from Owens-Illinois as a legal secretary for Mr. Boyd in the patent office. She loved her job there and was very proud of what she was part of during her tenure. She traveled for work and pleasure, visiting all around the country, the Bahamas, and even Europe. She was especially fond of the Greenbriar Resort in West Virginia, and had myriad stories to share about who she saw there. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Martha; brother, Clare Bacon and sisters, Ruth A. Patrick and Rhonda B. Redd. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Joe (Stas') Jordan, John (Julie) Jordan, Julie (Paul) Harrington, Pat (Judy) Jordan, Michael (Ellie) Jordan, Joanne (Dan) Sexton, David (Bonnie) Bacon and Michael (Bev) Bacon, as well as a robust lineage of "multiple great" nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law and dear friend, Sarabelle Bacon. The family would like to recognize the fantastic care she received during her last years at the Sunset House, They would also like to thanks her doctor, Monica Young, for her special attention as well as Heartland Hospice for all of their work and diligence. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania, Ave., Toledo, OH, from 6-9 p.m. On Thursday, April 1, Rev. Karen M. Shepler will preside over a small prayer service at 11 a.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Sylvania, OH 43560. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in Beverly's memory be made to the Heartland Hospice of Toledo to continue their work or the Toledo Humane Society for the better treatment of animals. My Aunt Beverly was a very loving and giving person. We enjoyed having her, our Aunt Ruth, and our Grandmother as our family guests for every Thanksgiving and Christmas. My family hosted her for her trip to Switzerland in 1993 and this was a once in a lifetime trip for Beverly. We will greatly miss "BB", as we referred to her, and know that she is now resting peacefully now in a better place. God bless you Aunt BB.

I was very sorry to hear of Beverly's passing. I knew her as "Aunt Bev" & to me, she always appeared as a woman very self assured, stylish, confident. A great role model for a young woman growing up in the sixties & seventies. A woman beyond her time, expressing herself outside of the conventions of the time, her very cool Camero. She was quiet to me, but her presence made an impact on me for which I am grateful.
