Caroline Wood Obituary

Caroline I. Crouch Wood

Caroline I. Crouch Wood, a cherished person and compassionate friend, passed away on June 20, 2023, at the age of 88. Her peaceful departure took place at Tender Care-Pinehurst, a caring assisted living facility in Denver, Colorado.

In Caroline's memory, donations are welcome at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 623 Catawba Ave., Put-In-Bay, OH 43456. Born on September 19, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, Caroline was the loving daughter of Lewis Maxwell Crouch and Ruth Armstrong Crouch. Caroline's legacy lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her son, Brad Wood and his wife, Maureen Wood, their children, Elizabeth Sajdak Wood and her husband Robert Sajdak, and their children Charlie, Henry, and George Sajdak; Matthew Wood and his wife, Meghan Wood, and their children, Connor, Cameron, and Carson Wood; and Sarah Weiss, her husband, Paul Weiss, and their two children, Lucas and Elsie Weiss. Her lineage also extends through her daughter, Amy Garrett, and her husband, Brent Garrett, their children, Caroline Turner and her husband, Frank Turner; Pierce Smith and his wife, Alexi Smith; Sumner Smith; and step-grandchildren, Jake and Ross Garrett. This extensive family tree is a testament to the love and family values instilled by Caroline and will continue to be her legacy.

After graduating from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois in 1952, Caroline continued her education at Miami University of Ohio, earning a bachelor's degree in education in 1956. It was on June 29, 1957, that she united in marriage with Henry Voss Wood of Fremont, Ohio, in Western Springs, Illinois. Mrs. Wood's lifelong commitment to education was manifested through her teaching career in Oregon, Ohio. After taking a brief hiatus to raise her children, she resumed her role as an educator, retiring in 1990. She was proud to be part of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa educational societies, and Gamma Phi Beta sorority alumnae. Her deep-rooted faith played an instrumental part in her life. Originally a member of St Mark's Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio, she, and her husband later joined St Andrew's Methodist Church in Centennial, CO after their move. Moreover, her sense of civic duty was evident through her active participation in the DAR, both in Toledo, Ohio and later in Centennial, CO. One of Caroline's most cherished places was Put-in-Bay, Ohio, where she and her husband owned a summer cottage. This special retreat was the backdrop for many joyous summers spent with loved ones. Here, she was an active member of the Yacht Club and the Historical Society and took part in activities and services at St. Paul Episcopal Church. Caroline will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her passion for education, and her love for her community. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. The spirit of her legacy will live on in those she touched and will continue to inspire future generations.

I want to send my condolences. I loved your mother, Caroline who I worked with at Starr School. We worked together as 1st grade teachers for 3 years. I remember your mother as a very caring and loving person, always thinking about others. I also remember my visits at your parents“ homes in Oregon and Put-In-Bay. Your mother introduced me to Amy who was so hospitable and where she provided me the opportunity to snow ski in CO. Your mother and Amy were so kind.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family. My Deepest Regrets. .
I know your mother is in Heaven with Jesus.
