Charles Gentry Webb Obituary

Charles Gentry and Mary Ann (Maxwell) Webb

The family of Mary Ann Maxwell Webb and Charles Gentry Webb announce their passing on February 15 and 16, 2022, respectively. Together as a married couple for 72 years, Charles and Mary Ann met in their hometown of Livingston, Tennessee, on a blind date. It is fitting that they were joined together in death within 1 day of each other.

Charles was born in Livingston, Tennessee on October 11, 1927 to Shirley and Elizabeth (Ledbetter) Webb. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; along with his brothers, Claude, Carver, Clarence, Jesse Paul, Odell, and Woodrow; and sisters, Vada Ledbetter and Ernal Matthews.

Mary Ann was born on November 24, 1931 to Truman and Edith Maxwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Betty Jo Norris.

After his high school graduation in 1946, Charles enlisted in the Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic at Hickam Air Force Base, Oahu, Hawaii. Upon his return, Charles enrolled in the Tennessee Polytechnic University, Cookeville, TN, where he earned an engineering and business degree on the G.I. Bill.

Charles and Mary Ann were married on February 10, 1950 in Livingston and later had two children, Cynthia Lynn Webb (Toledo) and Charles Gentry Webb, Jr. (Simi Valley, CA). With their young family, Charles and Mary Ann moved around the country as he accepted various engineering positions that took them to Texas, Alabama and Florida. They settled in the Toledo area in 1962.

Charles worked for Continental Engineering and Aviation Corporation which eventually became Teledyne CAE. Charles took great pride in his career and he traveled all over the world. Charles was honored with the company's first Ace Award in 1988 for his outstanding investigation regarding a drone mishap at the Wallace Air Station, Philippines. He retired as a senior engineer but continued serving Teledyne as a consultant for many years after.

For over 25 years, Mary Ann worked at Jacobson's as a manager of the Fur Department and Designer Fashions. With her sense of style and southern charm, she made many dear friends among colleagues and customers.

Charles and Mary Ann were 60 year residents of Temperance, Michigan, but they never lost their southern accents and charm. Services will be private with burial in Livingston. The family would like to thank Angels' Helpful Hands, Monroe, Michigan, for their loving and exceptional care over the past two years as well as Promedica Hospice of Monroe. Contributions can be made to the Monroe County Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice.
