Craig Bruns Obituary

BRUNS

Craig M.

Craig M. Bruns, 84, quietly and peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek.

Craig was born to the late Carl and Leona Bruns on January 17, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School and the University of Toledo, Craig served for two years in the army during the Korean War, acting as a court stenographer. Upon his return, Craig went to work for the accounting firm of Konopak and Dalton, where he earned his Certified Public Accountant designation, leading to a long career in the field. After stints at Haughton Elevator as a staff accountant and Prestolite as a Senior Internal Auditor, Craig began a thirty-year commitment to public service as the Comptroller/Treasurer at TARTA before retiring at the age of 76 in 2006.

Among the joys of Craig's life were his association with the historic Salem Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for over 70 years. He served as the church's council president as well as treasurer for over 60 years. He also enjoyed traveling, particularly "up north" to Leland, Michigan, classical music, jogging, golf, the Detroit Tigers, ice cream, and spending time with his family.

Craig is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol (Sarvis) Bruns; children, Scott (Jenny) Bruns and Christy (Rick) Diegel; grandsons, Jake Diegel, Adam Diegel, Craig Bruns, and Grant Bruns; twin brother, Carl (Shirley) Bruns; sister-in-law, Nancy (Larry) Seeburger; nieces, Pam, Ellen, Amy, and Leslie; nephews, Brad and Bill, and many longtime friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Linda Roth.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 2nd, and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 3rd, both at the Walter Funeral Home at 4653 Glendale Ave., with his final resting place at the Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society.
