OBITUARY
Darryl Victario Overton was born in Chicago to the late Timothy Overton and Lolita Rohama Beverly. Darryl was the first of Lolita’s four children. Darryl lived in Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Honolulu, HI, and Pembroke, IL. As a boy, Darryl was fascinated by the military. He joined the cub scouts, sea scouts, and the ROTC. He attended Wendell Phillips High School. On his 18th birthday, he joined the US Navy because he couldn’t wait to “join the Navy and see the world.”
Darryl earned his GED while serving in the Navy. Following his tour of duty, he attended college, obtained a certificate in mechanical drafting, an associate’s degree in computer technology, and eventually, bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Darryl continued to sail after leaving the Navy. In fact, he loved it so much that he bought a boat and lived on it for several years at the Marina Del Ray dock in California. He enjoyed spending his days sailing and snorkeling. Darryl loved music and built an extensive collection. Like many in his family, he enjoyed science fiction.
When Darryl returned to Illinois, he learned to love the land like he had the sea. He purchased acreage in Pembroke where he developed a farm from which he grew and sold produce. He was proud that his land was recently recognized as an “organic farm”. Darryl, who enjoyed spending time with his siblings and cousins, was well loved by his entire family.
At the age of sixty-three was fatally injured in a farming accident. Darryl was preceded in death by his parents Timothy Overton and Lolita Rohama Beverly. Darryl is survived by his brother Kenneth, sisters Donna and Valerie Chappell of Madison, WI, and a host of cousins, Clyde, Ronald, and Rosalia Johnson; Lollie (Perry) Pitchlyn; Carmela ;William Jr., Brian Shana), and Dorian Beverly; Tracy (Ray) Walls; Loren and Lance Beverly; Anthony (Barbie) and Steven (Peggy) Beverly; and Sherilyn (Charles) Myricks.
