Darryl VanEric Perry Sr., 56, of Toledo, Ohio, departed on Thursday, December 14, 2023, with his wife, Modena Perry, by his side. Darryl Perry was born on September 7, 1967, to Mary and Jesse Perry in Detroit, Michigan. He is preceded in death by both parents.

Darryl was raised in the church and accepted Christ into his life at an early age, demonstrating his decision through public baptism at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He attended Bowser High School, where he was a student-athlete participating in the sport of basketball. He was in the graduating class of 1985. Upon graduation, Darryl Perry joined the United States Army and served for four years, from 1985-1989, where he was honorably discharged.

Darryl Perry went on to have an occupation in Armored Transportation and the retail trade industry, as a Front End Manager. Throughout his life, Darryl Perry touched the lives of many with kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. Darryl was known for his infectious laughter, warm smiles, and ability to bring joy to any gathering. Darryl Perry's presence lit up the room and left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was deeply passionate about cooking and was known for his "mastery of the grill," impeccable style, humor, and words of wisdom and encouragement, earning him the affectionate title of "Unk/Uncle D" and "PaPa G" by many. He enjoyed camping and listening to his smooth jazz. Darryl's love for sports was infectious, and he often shared his passion with others. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers.

His legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations. He leaves behind his wife, Modena Perry, of 19 years; his son, Darryl VanEric Perry II; his daughters, Ashely (Danjuan), Linda, and Carvinta (David); grandchildren: Jay'Den Perry, JayVaughn Perry, Anthony Casey, VaSean Casey, DeLiah Collins, David Collins III, Daniel Collins, Destyni Collins; and the mother of his three children, Linda (Smith) Gibson; and his Godmother, Omega Flowers.
