David HARRISON Obituary

HARRISON David L., Sr. David L. Harrison Sr., 58, of Wapakoneta, died January 16, 2011, at 3:20 A.M. at his residence after a brief struggle with cancer. He was born November 10, 1952, in Toledo, OH, to Harvey Robert Harrison and Mary (Silliman) Williams, who both preceded him in death. On June 13, 1986, he married Vicki J. Shoffstall who survives in Wapakoneta. He is also survived by a son, David (Dawn) Harrison Jr. of Lima; a sister, Susan Wozniak of Toledo, OH; a brother, Scott William (Ruth) Harrison of Toledo; a mother-in-law, Deanna Shoffstall of Wapakoneta; 2 sister-in-laws, Grace (Ted) Copeland and Debra Shoffstall, both of Wapakoneta; 6 grand children, Caitlin, Nicholas, Patrick, and Roland Harrison, and Alyssa and Cody Dietrich; a grandmother, Ruth Prater of West Union, OH; several nieces and nephews, Aaron Wozniak, Nicole (Brandon) McCraney, Anna (Dustin) Skinner, Travis and Trevor Copeland; and 2 great-nieces, Alexis Copeland and Mackenzie Wozniak. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Roger Dean Shoffstall. Mr. Harrison was a 1970 graduate of Bowsher High School in Toledo, OH. He then served his country in the United States Air Force as a law enforcement specialist from June 22, 1971 and was honorably discharged on May 29, 1974, after serving a tour in Viet Nam. He was then employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, from September of 1974 to June of 1980 as a Department of Defense Police Officer. He also received a Bachelor's of Arts in Criminal Justice from Parks University in 1981 graduating Cum Laude. He then began his 22 year career with the Wapakoneta Police Department from June of 1980 until May of 2002 serving as a Patrolman, Lieutenant, and finally Chief of Police. He was extremely proud to serve his God, country, and community. He was a born again Christian, and his greatest love was his family and his dogs. Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Pastor Ron Boyer will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Buckland Cemetery with Military Rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post #8445. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Rita's Hospice. Condolences may be expressed at www.schlosserfuneralhome.com
