Denny Gloeckl Obituary

Denny Gloeckl

Dennis Gloeckl, beloved father, husband, and pa went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2024, at the age of 77. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer for over a year. Denny was the son of Mary Vera Cassidy and Joseph Gloeckl. He grew up in North Toledo, the second oldest of six children. He attended Woodward High School, where he played basketball. His team won the city league championship in 1964. He enlisted in the Air Force when he found out his number was up in the lottery for the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his service and a big supporter of veterans. He wore a red shirt every Friday for over 20 years in support of the troops.

Denny retired from Toledo Edison and Consumer Energy. Denny never met a stranger and was loved by everyone. He was a faith filled man and a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Maumee, OH. Denny loved Ohio State football, golf, basketball, trips to Vegas, his country, and volunteering at Heatherdowns Country Club.

On December 13, 1985, he had a dental cleaning appointment with a hygienist named Linda. Six months later they were married. They had a loving marriage for almost 38 years. Denny cherished being a father to Megan and Bryan and was so very proud of them. He told them every day how much he loved them. He loved coaching their CYO basketball teams for many years and assisting Bryan's Maumee Little League teams. He loved his daughter-in-law Kimberly and son-in-law Bob. He considered them his own. But more than anything, the light of his life was his grandchildren. He loved spending time with his girls, Rylee and Reese. He was able to hold on to virtually meet his newest grandson, Jackson, born in Hawaii on May 18.

Denny is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Joe and Wyatt Gloeckl. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Megan (Bob) DiPippa, and Bryan (Kimberly) Gloeckl; grandchildren, Rylee, Reese, and Jackson; sister, Donna; brothers Bob (Al), Ed (Herb) Gloeckl; sisters-in-law, Rita (Pattrick) Przysiecki, and Sue Nowakowski; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on September 12, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee. A funeral Mass will be held on September 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee.

I grew up in north Toledo with Denny. He was one of the nicest people I ever met. We were all "Friendly Center" kids. Besides our parents, FC kept on the straight and narrow. Denny and I would shovel the playground of the St Francis grade school to play in the winter months. He was much better at basketball than the rest of us as was evidenced by his play as a sixth man on the Woodward High School 1964 city championship team. He never forgot the old neighborhood where we grew up. Every time I ever ran into him in our next lives, he always had a kind word.
God bless his family.
Rest in peace my friend.

Condolences to the family of Denny. I remember Denny from the old St. Francis De Sales grade school. I was in his class. He was a great basketball player even in grade school. With him on the team our school won the 60-61 championship! Haven't seen him since those days but have nothing but positive memories of him.

Linda....I met your husband a few times at a mutual friend´s house, Lynne Clower. Her and I were long time friends and she would talk about you and Denny frequently. She thought of you two as family. I miss her so much. I am sure she was waiting for Denny at the pearly gates. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
