Diane Gedert Obituary

Diane Marie Gedert

05/12/1943 - 11/25/2025

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens...a time to be born and a time to die...a time to weep and a time to laugh...a time to mourn and a time to dance..."

On November 25, 2025, Diane ("Dee") met her Creator and rejoined family and friends who previously departed their earthly existence. She had been experiencing declining health for a number of months.

Diane was the only daughter of Loretta and Lawrence Gedert, born on May 12, 1943. She lived in Toledo her entire life. She attended Notre Dame Academy, and from there entered Notre Dame Convent. While a Sister of Notre Dame (Sister M. Deanne) she taught art, a talent inherited from her father, and general studies at the former Ladyfield School, Notre Dame Academy, and Catholic schools in Delphos and Napoleon, Ohio. She instilled such an impression on her students that to this day some would contact and visit her at her home. After her teaching career she took gerontology courses and obtained her LPN certification, and she worked at Ohio Living Swan Creek for a number of years. She left the convent in the 1990s and took care of her father and mother until their deaths.

For a number of years Diane volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul Society when they had a program at Little Flower Church serving the needs of the less fortunate. She also had a deep interest in Native American art and culture, and attended several pow-wows. She enjoyed antique hunting, candle smelling, and Coney Dogs. She loved visiting Grand Haven, Michigan.

Di had an avid interest in tiny houses and longed for the day when local restrictions would change to allow such developments county-wide. She also liked attending concerts where local musician, Johnny Rodriguez, played. Her favorite singing group, dating from her teenage years, was The Platters. She enjoyed talking about beer testing and camping. Di helped a Chiropractor friend set up his office, especially as to initial insurance carriers, and other matters. She also had worked in the past for several other chiropractors. Di easily talked to strangers and thus made friends throughout her life.

Di's four cats were the center of her life, as was attending Mass at the chapels at Mercy St. Anne's Hospital and Mercy St. Vincent Hospital.

Diane is survived by her maternal aunt, Elizabeth Kretz, of North Baltimore, Ohio; cousins, Karen (John) Robeson, Nancy (Matt) Kettinger, James (Ann) Kretz, Cheryl Zimmerman, Mary Zimmerman; and numerous second cousins.

Di, you are dearly missed.

Deanne was my 3rd grade teacher at Ladyfield. She was taught French and art classes. Always smiling and kindhearted, she was my favorite teacher! We kept in contact and she stepped in to watch my pets when I went on my honeymoon years later. She was up on the times and recommended my current Chiropractor at Anthony Wayne Community Chiropractic. She was an Angel on this earth!

Dee was the best friend I never met. She was an avid COOL Artesian Water fan for 24 years. She promoted my products to anyone who would listen. She was one of the kindest people I ever knew. She and Dr. Mike saved my life when I had stage four Lyme's Disease. I'm certain she is with the Lord in heaven, where I will finally meet her one day.
