My grandfather was not only an amazing grandpa but he was an amazing man. He was the example of what a patriarch is; wise, helpful, patient, kind, supportive and always put his family first. My heart is broken that you are gone but I am so thankful you lived such a long, full life. I am so lucky I had you for as long as I did. You helped shape who I am. I will forever miss your hugs, our talks, our bike rides, and will never forget you taught me how to spell Oldsmobile! I know you are spending your days in heaven with Aunt Kimmie and Aunt Zoe and I suppose they needed you there. Not one day goes by when you are not on my mind. Rest in peace, I love you grandpa.

My mother always cried at the song- Daddy’s Hands and I truly understand. All I can think about is his smile and his hands. All the segments were puffy and soft but the outside was rough from years of hard work. He was everything. The standard that all women in our family held all other men against. My husband fills my tank with gas and brings me flowers to enjoy through the weekend because my grandpa did that for my grandmother and my stepdad did it for my mom and it’s how he’s influenced all our lives. The little and big things; he was there for all of them. And not just for his family- for everyone he encountered. We were just lucky enough to call him ours.
