Donald Hasenfratz Obituary

Donald George Hasenfratz

1932 - 2025

Donald George Hasenfratz, a Toledo resident, went to his Lord and Savior on August 24, 2025. He was born on September 26, 1932, to Beatrice (Romaker) and Joseph Hasenfratz. After his mother passed away, he was lovingly raised by grandparents, Catherine and Frank Hasenfratz. He attended Toledo Central Catholic High School, Macomber Vocational Technical School, and the University of Dayton. He was a member of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church. The family would like to thank Fr. Dave Tscherne from the church for all of his support.

Don, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, served his country in the Korean War. He returned home to marry the love of his life, Mary Catherine Fox, on May 14, 1955. He was employed by Ohio Bell and ATT for 33 years.

Don is survived by his children, Catherine (Kevin Mielke), Robert, Donna (Tim Kozak), Julie (Gerd Hornung), Susan (Troy Halter), and Gretchen (Scott Coats); as well as 11 grandchildren and 7 great - grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, in 1997; his godfather, George Hasenfratz; and brothers, Leonard and Kenneth. In 2002, Don married Karen Lechner; she preceded him in death in 2024.

Don possessed a unique gift; he could create, repair, and engineer nearly anything. In 1980, Don and Mary built a family cottage on Lime Lake, in Leelanau County, MI. Nearly all of his children's homes were enhanced and improved by his skills. His most cherished memories were vacations and holidays with his family relatives. Even after Mary's passing, Don remained close to the Fox family.

Family and friends will be received at the Newcomer Funeral Home (Southwest Chapel), 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
