Douglas Holdridge Obituary

Douglas Holdridge

09/24/1939 - 11/18/2025

Douglas Holdridge, age 86, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Milan, Michigan, on September 24, 1939, he was the son of Albert and Ellen (Fairbanks) Holdridge.

A graduate of Sylvania Burnham High School's Class of 1957, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Judy (Hershman), beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted 65 years. Together, they were always ready for an adventure. Members of the "50 States Club", they traveled to every state in the country and also explored several European destinations-collecting memories, stories, and friendships along the way.

He enjoyed being involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives, especially coaching his son's baseball and hockey teams. Family vacations were often taken with their camper and later, after his children were grown, on a motorcycle with his wife, a symbol of the adventurous spirit he carried throughout his life.

Doug's professional career began in data processing with the Chevrolet Transmission Plant, then Toledo Trust, where he advanced to an assistant vice president, (now KeyBank), and later, Owens Corning, where he served as a Data Processing Manager. In midlife, he embraced a bold career change, becoming a custom home builder and founding Holdridge Homes. He excelled in the field, earning multiple Home Builders Association awards and serving as president of the HBA. He pioneered energy-efficient home design, receiving distinguished honors such as the National Energy Value Award and the Ohio Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency. His work was frequently featured you in the local newspaper, and his homes were showcased in the annual Home Show.

After a short retirement, Doug continued to lend his talents to the community, working in maintenance at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg and later serving as Facilities Director at Harbor Behavioral Health. Even after leaving formal work, he never truly retired-he was always ready with a tool, a plan, or a helping hand for family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy; his three children, Lori Zielinski, Amy (Mike) Mollenkopf, and Brian (Kim VanTuinen) Holdridge; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Kirby) Rawlins, Dean Mollenkopf, Joshua (Samantha) Zielinski, Kyle (Megan) Holdridge, Nora (Jake) Randolph, Grant (Nick) Pierce- Holdridge, Averie Holdridge; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Karen (Roger) Start; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Sharon Holdridge.

He will be remembered for his boundless curiosity, steady work ethic, generous heart, and the adventures-large and small-that he shared with those he loved. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, 2026, at Nederhouser Hall, at Olander Park, in Sylvania, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Ohioans Home Health & Hospice, 28276 Kensington Lane, Perrysburg, OH 43551.

Judy and Family, I am so sorry to hear that Doug passed. It was so nice that we were about to connect again with you both and Laurie a few years ago on Hilton Head. I have so many wonderful memories of our being neighbors many years ago on Garrison Road and all our trials and tribulations raising our tribes together.
