Ellis Massamore Obituary

MASSAMORE Ellis C. April 4, 1919 - Dec. 12, 2007 Ellis C. Massamore, 88, of Monroe, died at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been ill since Thanksgiving. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home, Monroe, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. V.F.W. Post 1138 Monroe, will conduct military honors followed by the Rev. George Fountain, pastor of Raisinville Baptist Church. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born April 4, 1919, in Ball, Kentucky, he was the son of Roscoe and Eva (Hicks) Massamore. He married Margaret L. Chappell on July 3, 1946, in Pikeville, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2003. He served in the US Army during WWII and had been a Prisoner of War. He served in the European Theater with the 4th Infantry at Normandy and received the Purple Heart. Ellis worked for Jeep Corporation, Toledo for 25 years as a quality inspector, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Toledo and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Frenchtown Senior Citizens. Surviving are two sons, James E. (Susan) Massamore of Toledo and Larry K. (Shirley) Massamore of Temperance; five grandchildren, Heather Hitchen, Mark Massamore, Paul Massamore, Shannon Lehsten and Katie Paulis; eleven great-grand-children; six sisters, Ida Wyatt of West Virginia, Loretta Morgan of Arizona, Pauline Adams of Texas, Nellie Thompson of Michigan, Jackie Morrin of Michigan and Shirley Chapman of Virginia. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Oma Waldron. Online condolences may be sent through www.ruppfuneralhomeinc.com
