Eric Dennis



The loving family of Eric Dennis Nagy mourns his passing on December 14, 2013. He died in the Toledo home where he spent his boyhood and to which he returned 25 years ago. Eric was born in 1944 to Samuel and Eleanor (Thompson) Nagy in Lorain, OH. After high school Eric served four years in the United States Navy during which he met the love of his life, Kerry Lynn Beck, in Key West, FL. They married and had four children while living in many homes ranging from Massachusetts to California, finally settling in Toledo.

Eric cherished his family and instilled in his children the values of love, loyalty, education, and hard work. They all have wonderful memories of their visits to the cabin at Hubbard Lake. He was a doting grandfather who treasured his five grandchildren and tried to spend time with each one. A "Friend of Bill W", Eric was easy to talk to and a good listener. He told a story really well, loved discussing politics, and had a natural charm that will be remembered by many who knew him.

Handy with tools, he enjoyed building things at home and doing repairs. Any major life project, from changing jobs to planning a vacation, involved putting together a list of "pros and cons" before it was undertaken. Summers found Eric planting a large vegetable garden with Kerry, from which they made and froze gallons of delicious tomato sauce for the winter. Together they also enjoyed hosting family gatherings and especially treasured the annual Christmas Eve sleepover with all their children and grandchildren.

One of those salesmen of whom it is said, "He could sell ice to Eskimos", Eric supported his family doing a job he loved at which he excelled. Most of his career was in industrial sales, marketing big air compressors. Eric was very proud of his years as national sales manager for Atlas Copco and the Industrial Sales Division of DeVilbiss. He retired in 2011 from Air Technologies, where he is remembered as not just a superb salesman, but also as a mentor to many younger members of the sales force.

Eric was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Kerry Lynn, from whose passing he never recovered, as well as his parents, Samuel and Eleanor Nagy, and infant son, Daniel Peter Nagy. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Steinbock (Keith); sons, Mike Nagy (Kelly), and Joseph Samuel Nagy (Lori); sister, Judith Nagy Cattran; brothers-in-law, Michael Beck (Lori), Timothy Beck (Laura); grandchildren, Riley Eleanor Steinbock, Danny Steinbock, Madison Grace Steinbock, Mikey Nagy and Logan Nagy, as well as six nieces and nephews, especially Leigh Cattran. All are feeling his loss.

Arrangements are being handled by the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Toledo OH, where friends will be welcomed on Thursday, December 19 from 3 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Coyle Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 20, with private graveside services following in South Amherst, OH. Expressions of sympathy would be gratefully appreciated and might include words of comfort and remembrance, flowers, as well as donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, which has been an amazing blessing to the whole Nagy family.
