Floyd Gaster Obituary
Floyd Gaster, 89, of Upper Sandusky, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Kingston Care Center in Sylvania, where he resided the past two years.
Born July 9, 1928 in Carey, he was the son of Maurice and Beatrice (Myers) Gaster. He married Donna L. Patterson on December 18, 1948 in Carey. She preceded him in death on December 26, 1999.
Surviving are six children, Lawrence (Debbie) Gaster of Toledo, George (Carla) Gaster of Ashland City, TN, Nancy (Larry) Roop of Shelby, Lynn (Roger Hite) Gaster of Mt. Vernon, Dennis (Lori) Gaster of Bowling Green, and Michael Gaster of Upper Sandusky; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Floyd Gaster; and a sister, Mary Yingling Moll.
Floyd was an engineer for Daybrook Ottawa for 25 years. He then opened a manufacturing facility for Maxon Industries in Monroe, GA, and was Plant Manager for Peabody Galion in Marion, Galion, and Mt. Vernon, OH. He retired from Peabody Galion in the early 1990's and continued engineering consulting for many years following.
Floyd had an extreme talent for all things mechanical. He built a sports car, the "Special V-8", go-karts, and a hydraulically driven garden tractor. He loved gardening, photography, wine making, jigsaw puzzles and fine woodworking projects. He also played trumpet in a band when he was younger. Whatever his pursuit, he put 100% into everything he did. He had a passion for perfection.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kingston Care Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their patience, understanding, and loving care they extended to Floyd.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, with Rev. Vince Petersen, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Carey.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316.
