Francis STACK Obituary

STACK Francis J. "Joe" Joe Stack passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio with his loving family by his side. Joe was born in Lakewood, Ohio, July 11, 1923, to Henry and Catherine (Campbell) Stack. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland and joined the United States Marine Corp, serving as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 2nd Division during WWII. Following his tour of duty in the South Pacific Joe returned stateside and attended Michigan State University, where he met his wife of 57 years, Lois Green. Lois and Joe settled in Toledo where Joe graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law. He worked for 30 years in the legal department at Owens Corning Fiberglas Corp. Joe was also a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. Joe greatly enjoyed travel, playing golf, and spending summers at the family cottage at Devil's Lake, Michigan, where he and Lois have been long time members of the DLYC. Joe was a lifelong avid fan of Michigan State sports. Joe was ever quick with a joke, as the Irish generally are, and generously caring toward his family. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Lois; daughter, JoAnn; granddaughter, Bailey; brother, Robert and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Following his generous and practical nature, Joe has donated his body to the Medical College of Ohio. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, September 27, 2010, at 11 am at Historic St. Patrick's church, 130 Avondale, Toledo. Family visitation will precede the Mass from 10am-11am, and a luncheon will immediately follow at the Real Seafood Company, 22 Main St., Toledo. The family would like to express thanks to family and friends for their loving support during this journey. Also, special gratitude to Father Joe Steinbauer and the staff of Little Flower, and the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Detroit Avenue, for their kind and compassionate care of Joe and his family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Flower Parish Building Fund, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo, OH 43615, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Joe was a good man to look up to and was an influence upon my joining the Marines as 2nd Lt. I wish I had more time with him and Lois, both had a great laugh. The time at the Devils Lake Cottage is a great memory!

Lois and JoAnn,
I just heard of Joe's passing by email from Carol while traveling in Sicily. It is fitting to be here thinking of my father and Joe's service to our country that allows such freedom. I often reflect of the lake house of great happy times of card playing and laughs. Uncle Matt, Joe, George, Granny Green, mom and everyone else. Thank you for a great childhood and Joe was someone to look up to. Last comment, thanks Joe for you helped me join the Marines Officer's Corps to follow your example. God bless

Dear Mrs. Stack and JoAnn,
When I was told of your recent loss, I recalled some very cold, frigid days that Mr.Stack and I would trudge through the snow (and snowdrifts) from our street to the bus stop on Glendale. I'm not much of a morning person, but Mr. Stack seemed to know just what to say to get me laughing along our walk. Once I remember both he and I got stuck in a snow mound while trying to get in to the bus!!! Boy did we have a good laugh at ourselves!! He was a wonderful man who blessed us all with his kind ways! I pray that you both lean on your memories to feel the healing presence of God's grace during this difficult time. I am proud to have known him! God Bless -

I'll miss not visiting/having some great talks and laughs with Uncle Joe every summer when I was in Sylvania for the annual Jamie Farr Golf Tourney. However, I'll still stop by and see Aunt Lois who I want to know that I always looked at Uncle Joe as one of the nicest human beings I've ever known. My deepest sympathy to you, JoAnne and Bailey. All my love, mike mcnamara
