The loss of a true mentsch.
June 13, 2019
This message is sent on behalf of the Goodman family, in Toronto. Jerry's Mom Gert (nee Goodman) was raised in Toronto, & moved to Toledo when she married Jack Feldstein in the 1920's. (I was never sure about how Gert & Jack met). Jerry was my Dad's first cousin. Yet, they were very close in age.
The Feldstein family in Toledo, & the Goodman family in Toronto, always stayed in touch & visited each other often. My wife Eleanor & I last visited Jerry in Toledo in the summer of 2017, just after he was recognized with the "Mensch of the Year Award". Though he was (in typical Jerry fashion) quite humble about the award, we took a great sense of pride when learning about it.
As has already been said: our hearts [also] go out to all who loved Jerry - the very lovable, kind, caring person.

To the Feldstein family,
I remember as a young kid how excited my father Julius Goodman was whenever we drove to Toledo or when Jerry came in to Toronto for a visit.
My father always tried to accomodate him when he came to Toronto and I also enjoyed meeting his two sons and daughter Marla.

I only got to know Jerry a few years ago. I played softball with his sons, mostly with Mark, for many years in the B'Nai B'Rith Softball League many years ago. Jerry went out to lunch several times with our ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group for a few years. He was very humble and soft-spoken. This hid a mind that was still sharp into his nineties! As the perfunctory leader of the group, I inform the members of the next "meeting." After he gave up on email, I would call Jerry every week. We would have a short, albeit interesting, discussion each week. He ALWAYS thanked me for thinking of him. After several months, Jerry asked me, politely as always, to not continue to call him. It was getting to be too much of a problem for him to go out to lunch with us. I missed Jerry from that day forward. I will continue to miss him for the rest of my life. I would see Jerry occasionally at Friday night services at Temple Shomer Emunim. I will miss that, too! My heart goes out to all who loved Jerry. He was a very lovable, kind, caring person! Every time I saw him, he greeted me warmly, and with a grin that could light up a room. We were all so lucky to have Jerry in our lives!
