Guy-Michael Davis Obituary

Guy-Michael B. Davis

Guy-Michael B. Davis, formerly of Toledo, died at his home in New York City on December 22, 2025, shortly after celebrating his 89th birthday. Guy graduated from Maumee High School and Bowdoin College, and studied international law in Switzerland before returning home to earn a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. During law school, Guy and a group of young civil libertarians established the Toledo Chapter of the ACLU. He was selected to serve as a delegate to the 1965 Washington World Conference on Peace Through Law. Upon graduation, Guy practiced law at Melrod, Redman and Gartlan in Washington D.C. He returned once more to Toledo, and, after a stint at Roose Wade & Co., Guy went on to lead The Sam Davis Company, a commercial real estate firm founded by his grandfather.

Drawing on his keen sense of style, Guy owned and operated The Great Maumee Bay Mercantile & Trading Company at Cricket West, a boutique specializing in fine design for the home. Later in life, Guy moved to Philadelphia where he ran a B&B in Society Hill, welcoming guests and making friends from around the world. He loved dogs and was a neighborhood fixture, instantly recognized as the guy who always had a whippet by his side.

Guy inherited a strong philanthropic spirit from his grandfather, and was an enthusiastic fund-raiser for local charities, arts and cultural institutions, and political candidates. He sat on numerous boards and committees, including The Toledo Symphony, David's House of Compassion, Planned Parenthood of Toledo, and The Toledo Museum of Art, among others. Guy had a fierce political will, and he will always be remembered as an unwavering champion of peace and justice.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Roi C. and Bernice F. Davis; and his brother, Roi C. Davis, Jr. He is survived by his children, Gabrielle and Adam Davis; daughters-in-law, Sharon Barnes and Wendy Schwartzberg; and beloved grandson, Ari. Interment will be private.

Gaby, Adam, and Family
I'm so grateful to have been a long-time friend of your father, having met in the early 90s volunteering at Planned Parenthood. I would often stop in to see him when visiting my son in Philadelphia. He was a superb human being--kind, generous, and so much energy! Our last communication, an email this past Thanksgiving, was filled with his typical breathless excitement and joy about A's activities and being, "cute as a bug!"
I've always admired your father's outspokenness, his resilience, and quick wit. I am saddened by his passing, but know our world is better having had Guy Davis in it.

Gabby & Adam,

I am very sorry to learn of the passing of your father. Although I was 'aware' of his civic involvement I was certainly NOT aware of the passion, scope and impact of his endeavors. A life very well lived, to say the least! Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss.
