Harold Powell Obituary

Harold "Tom" & Marilyn Powell

Marilyn Jane Powell, age 82, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away December 18, 2023, at Ebeid Hospice facility of Northwest Ohio. Marilyn was born March 24, 1941, in Nelsonville, Ohio, to George and Mary Jo (Haffner) Wolf. A graduate of St. Mary's High School in Upper Arlington, Ohio, she married Bob Mortensen on June 10, 1961. Together they had four children. Marilyn retired after 32 years of working as an office manager at dental practices.

Harold Thomas "Tom" Powell, age 78, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away December 13, 2023, in The Toledo Hospital. Tom was born December 14, 1944, in Findlay, Ohio, to Harold and Ruth (Trumpy) Powell. Tom graduated from Findlay High School in 1962 where he played baseball and was recruited by the Philadelphia Phillies. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he worked as a trucking dispatcher for many years until his retirement. Tom was an amazing man and meant a lot to so many throughout his life.

Marilyn and Tom met, and they were married May 28, 1982, and lived happily ever after, as the saying goes. Their travels included New England, the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Las Vegas, and Branson, MO. Together they loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends. They enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Guardians, participating in their daily yoga class at the YMCA and bowling. When they weren't snowbirds in Florida, they were devoted members of Christ the King Parish. Marilyn passed away just five days after Tom, a testament to the love they both shared. They truly didn't want to be apart.

Surviving are Marilyn's children, Paul (Shana) Mortensen of Centreville, VA, Susan Patton (Jon Christian) of Toledo, OH and Julia Mortensen of Toledo, OH; Marilyn's sister, Martha (Bob) Infusino; Tom's sister, Debra (Tom) Morgan of Carey, OH; Tom's brother, Douglas of Fostoria. Also surviving are their six beloved grandchildren, Jordyn (Cole), Mikayla, Brooklyn, Mitchell, Sophia, and Kelly. Preceding them in death were Marilyn's son, Phil Mortensen; their grandson, Rayden Moran; Tom's two brothers, Terry and Michael Powell; and Tom's sister, Nancy.

The family will be receiving friends Friday, December 29, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd. Toledo, Ohio. Visiting will continue Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 10 a.m. until their Funeral Mass begins at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio. They will be laid to rest privately in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the amazing people at The Toledo Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Residence for helping make the last few days peaceful for Marilyn and Tom during their final journey.
