Hazel MEINKE Obituary

MEINKE Hazel L. Hazel L. Meinke, 91, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away on January 29, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Bono, Ohio on July 29, 1920 to Milton and Minnie (Johns) Weidner. She married her childhood sweetheart, Vernon Meinke in 1940, raised 5 children and spent 63 years together until his passing in 2003. Hazel and Vernon also spent many years managing the Portage River Gun Club during the 1940's and 50's. She enjoyed working with Gary and Laraine at Meinke Marina until her retirement in 2000. Hazel was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Martin, Ohio for many years. She lived for her children and grandchildren and made them all feel as they were her favorite. Hazel also enjoyed sewing, gardening, music, playing piano, babysitting her grandchildren and could skin and cook muskrat like no other. Surviving are her children, Gary (Laraine), Margo (John) Wolff and Marcia (Bob) Amonette; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Brenda and Becky; sister, Evelyn Fasnaugh; brother, Earl (Pat) Weidner and special friend, Helen Amonette. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Chuck and Rick Meinke; sister, Alice Butzin, and granddaughter, Michelle Meinke. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 17877 W. State Rte. 579, Martin, Ohio on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with interment following at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
