Isabel Perry Obituary

PERRY

Isabel H.

Isabel Houston Perry, 93 years old, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015, at Kingston Residence, Sylvania, Ohio.

Predeceased by her husband, David V. Perry; her brother, John C. Houston; John's wife, Jeanne M. Houston, and nephew, James C. Houston. Survived by nephew, Warren H. Houston; niece, Nancy Houston Canterbury (Jerry); great-nieces, Angela Harris Kitsch (Ray) and Jenna C. Houston, and great-nephew, John K. Houston. Also surviving are her two fur-babies, Megan and Muffin.

Isabel graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in bacteriology. She married David V. Perry and moved to Corpus Christ, TX, where Dave was a Navy test pilot. They later moved to New Jersey, Chagrin Falls and Toledo, finally settling in Sylvania. Isabel lived a full life, working at The Toledo Hospital in the lab, traveling extensively with Dave, and golfing and swimming whenever she could. Weekly bridge games with friends and contract bridge kept her active. Many people were recipients of her articles cut from The Toledo Blade or the Wall Street Journal, which then would lead to spirited discussions, and her extensive library is filled with books on diverse subjects.

She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for years, and making the drive down to Columbus with Dave on fall Saturdays to watch her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes play football. She loved animals, and had a soft spot in her heart for miniature poodles. One of her favorite trips was an African safari to Kenya. She liked to visit the Toledo Museum of Art and enjoyed concerts in the Peristyle. One of her lifelong dreams was fulfilled with a tour of Italy and its great museums. Other organizations that were very special to her were the Toledo Zoo, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the Toledo Orchestra, Toledo Opera Association, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and the Toledo Animal Shelter.

Isabel spent the last several years at Kingston Residence in Sylvania, where she enjoyed the company of old friends and new at the Residence. Many thanks go to her caretakers and nurses at Kingston Residence for their patient assistance with her care.

Visiting hours will be at Reeb Funeral Home on Friday, December 11, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the service begins at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Toledo Area Humane Society:

Dear Family of Isabels,
I t was a true pleasure to have her living in our community at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. We all enjoyed the daily experience with Izzy. She would smile widely when i strolled by her. But had to stop and give her a little 'conversation' daily. She was sure whimsical and this is how i will always remember her. Thanks for allowing me the pleasure to know her. Go Bucks Izzy ! So sorry to hear of Isabel's passing. We met many years ago during Dave's illness and I was lucky enough to become Dave's caregiver for the last two years of his life, and in fact, was in the ambulance with Dave when he passed away. Isabel was a dear friend and loved the times we could "do lunch" often at the Club, while catching up on our family and, of course, her precious pups! Never went there when she did not have an article or two from the WSJ for me to read on healthcare and her drive for years to find something that would help treat the dreaded ALS that claimed Dave. She was a great friend and I am sorry to have missed the past couple of years while she was at Kingston due to a family illness, but I will never forget her !

Isabel Perry was like an aunt to me for more than 50 years. A great friend. A great neighbor. A valuable member of the community. Stubborn but still a great conversationalist. She will be missed and be remembered fondly. RIP Isabel.
