Jack Martin Obituary

MARTIN Jack T. Jack T. Martin formerly of Point Place, passed away in California where he had made his home for the past 30 years on January 8, 2008. Jack was born to John and Emma Martin on April 10, 1921. He grew up in Point Place and started his football career at Point Place High School where he played offensive center, a position he continued his entire football career. Jack then transferred to Waite High School in 1937 when Point Place was annexed to the City of Toledo. In the 1939-40 football season, Jack was captain of the team his senior year when they defeated Portsmouth in the Buckeye Bowl played Columbus for the Mythical State Championship. After graduation, Jack moved on to Princeton University where he earned his varsity letter in 1941. Jack, after 2 years, applied and was accepted to the Naval Academy at Annapolis. He played all 3 years on the varsity team for the Navy. After completing a 2 year stint in the Navy following graduation from Annapolis, Jack joined the Los Angeles Rams where he played during the 1947, 48 and 49 seasons. After retiring from football, he started a second career as a professional negotiator. Jack leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Buchele) Martin; sons, Thomas Michael and John Patrick; daughter, Joan Alison; 4 grandchildren, and sister, Mary Pennington of Toledo. All services were private in California. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Jack's name are asked to consider Waite High School Athletic Scholarship fund, 301 Morrison Drive, Toledo, OH 43605.
