James Adams Obituary

James "Jim" H. Adams

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Henry "Jim" Adams on July 13, 2024, in Toledo, Ohio. Jim was born on June 12, 1937, in Perrysburg, OH, to Myra Viola Weiland and Eric Hershal (Sam) Adams. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1955 and immediately began a decades long career in the newspaper business as a printer, first for the Perrysburg Messenger Journal, and then for the Toledo Blade.

Jim was a printer, computer technician, and a former board member of the International Typographical Union (Local 63) during his nearly 40 years at the Toledo Blade. Jim participated in the Blade's career advancement program, graduating from Owens Technical College in 1989 with a degree in Engineering Technologies. He subsequently worked as a computer technician at the Blade and retired from the Blade in 1999.

Jim loved to spend time with his family and was extremely generous with his time always looking to help others who needed assistance whether family, friends, or neighbors. Jim was an enthusiastic fan of Ohio State and Cleveland sports, especially Ohio State football, making an annual trip to Columbus with his son, grandsons, and granddaughters.

Jim is survived by current wife, Barbara; children from his first marriage, Neil (Kathryn) Adams and Amy (Kerwin) Wiseley; sister, Kathryn (John) Piatt; stepchildren, Harry "Skip" Bailey, Robert Bailey, Tammy (Bob) Ankenbrandt, Larry Bailey, Tracy Johnson; and 20 grandchildren, great grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy (d. 2013); his parents and siblings, Roland, Sam, Tom, Wilma (Steman), Ruth (Thompson), and infant Janet Adams.

Jim's family was his passion, and he is loved and will be greatly missed by them.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. Jim was a friendly face on the Copeland Park bike/walking path. One winter he even used his snowblower to clear the entire trail.

James, was my uncle and a man I admired as a grade schooler I spent many days at his home playing with my cousin Neil. I will always remember James , my Father Roland their brothers and our uncles talking about sports. One time they challenged Neil, me and our cousins to a football games we killed them that was a good memory. I will always remember how tough a time James, my Dad and all the Adams kids had growing up but they all became good people they were all little miracles. I am so glad for his life and my only regret is after spending most of the last 47 years out west I did not see James more. James will be remembered well. Eric Adams
