James E. Armstrong

James E. Armstrong, age 88, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Hickory Ridge of Temperance.

He was born June 5, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, to William H. Armstrong Sr. and Gladys B. (Bachman) Armstrong.

Jim was employed as a model maker with Owens-Illinois for 30 years, retiring in 1990 at the age of 52. He enjoyed camping, motorcycling, traveling, and was a skilled woodworker.

A lifelong member of Point Place United Church of Christ, Jim lived out his Christian faith through service to others. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, participated in mission work on Native American reservations, and was always ready to help those in need, especially the sick, elderly, widows, and shut-ins in the community. He served the church in many capacities over the years, including leadership roles, leading the ushers, and helping maintain and improve church facilities.

After his wife, Donna, suffered a stroke, Jim visited her faithfully throughout her years in assisted living, remaining devoted to her until her passing. Jim never met a stranger - he would strike up a conversation with anyone - and he was a devoted lover of dogs.

Jim is survived by his sons, James "Jim" Armstrong Jr. and Matthew "Matt" (Anna) Armstrong; grandchildren, Jessica (Carl) Shultz, Jennifer (Dan) Leu, and Delaina (Justin) Althouse; great-grandchildren, Kael Leu, Emerson Shultz, and Jacob (Joe) Shultz; former daughter-in-law, Terri Armstrong; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Armstrong Sr. and Gladys B. Armstrong; his wife, Donna B. Armstrong; and his siblings, William "Bill" Armstrong Jr., Robert "Bob" Armstrong, and Donna Black.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit Street, Toledo, Ohio, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m., Pastor Jon Komperda officiating. Burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Heartland Hospice and Hickory Ridge of Temperance for the compassionate care and kindness they provided to Jim.
