James Farison Obituary

FARISON
Dr. James B.
Dr. James B. Farison, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on
January 19, 2017.
Jim was born on the family farm in McClure, Ohio on May 26, 1938. After graduating from McClure High School, he attended the University of Toledo where he received his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then earned a masters degree and Ph.D. in engineering from Stanford University. Over the next 35 years, Dr. Farison went on to have a distinguished career at the University of Toledo as both a professor and the Dean of the College of Engineering. Following his retirement from the University of Toledo, he and his wife, Gail, relocated to Waco, Texas. During the next 15 years he served in a number of capacities including professor and Chairmen of the Department of
Engineering at Baylor University, where he especially enjoyed the opportunity to share his faith in Christ in an academic atmosphere. Throughout his career in academia he garnered many prestigious recognitions and awards.
Jim married Gail (Donahue), his college sweetheart in 1961. They enjoyed 55 years of
marriage dedicated to the Lord and each other. They raised two sons, Jeff and Mark. One of his greatest passions was to serve the Lord in many capacities in his local church, both while in Toledo and Waco. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being with his four grandchildren. While he is greatly missed the family is encouraged by the fact that he is in the presence of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Blair and Marie Farison and his brother, Richard Farison. He is survived by his wife, Gail; and his sons, Jeff and Mark (wife, Janel); and four grandchildren, Andrew (wife, Elisenda), Sadie Gilmore (husband, Michael), Abigail and Seth. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert and Franklin; and sisters, Naomi Good and Margaret Fisher.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Wesley Woods Care Center and Providence Hospice, as well as all of the family and friends who have prayed for and supported them through the years of his illness.
Private family service to be held at a later date.

Aunt Gail & family,
Please know you are thought of often. As we all get older we realize memories of family are so important. My memories of Uncle Jim and you are all of a happy peaceful time. We may not have kept in touch as family should and I am regretful of that especially with how busy life has gotten; family should be higher on "the list".
My love and prayers to you all as you enter this new time in your lives without one you've loved for so long. It's always bitter sweet knowing they are now in such an amazing place and would not choose to come back; but we miss them so. I love knowing my mom & grandpa are up there together and now Uncle Jim. What hugs he must have received from them.
I wish I could give you a hug as well. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Dear Gail and Family,
While at Westgate Chapel we highly regarded Jim as an elder and teacher. I admit to a little trepidation when he was around--until one busy Sunday in the nursery. I was working alone and overwhelmed with the little kiddies. Jim came in and to this day this is how I remember him: sitting on the floor playing with the kids and talking with them in his soothing, kind voice. Never an ounce of trepidation afterwards; I saw his heart that day.
