James J. Jagielski
James "Jim" Joseph Jagielski, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023, with his wife and daughter at his side. Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio, on July 5, 1942, to Harry and Celia (Konopka) Jagielski. He was a life long resident of Point Place and graduated from Woodward High School in 1960. Jim always loved the water, so soon after graduation he enlisted with the United States Coast Guard. His 4 years of service took him to the east coast, stationed at a lighthouse near Liberty Island, in New York. In 1962, he had the honor of protecting his country on a battleship, sent to Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his military service, Jim returned to New York and worked for Con Edison. He eventually returned to Toledo, where in 1967, he began his 26-year career as a City of Toledo Firefighter. In 1970, Jim took on a second job, which lasted 34 years, working for Brinks. He was a proud fireman, always willing to be of service to others, retiring from the City of Toledo Fire Department in 1993, and then retiring from Brinks in 2004. Jim always had a strong work ethic and lived a life serving others.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed cooking, fishing, boating, camping and bowling. He was a long-time member of Ottawa River Yacht Club. He would never miss a fishing trip and was longing to go fishing until the day he passed. Jim was best known for his amazing fish fries. He would catch them, clean them and fry them up. Along with his wife, Dianne, he also loved camping, which they frequently took their family on road trips in their motorhome. He additionally loved spending time, with his wife, at their cottage on Long Lake, in Reading, Michigan. Finally, he would never miss a Tuesday afternoon bowling with his friends at Jugs.
On March 23, 1978, Jim married the love of his life, Dianne. They just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. What Jim loved most in his life, was his family. He was an amazing husband and an amazing father to his daughter, Shelly, and his son, Rob. He loved being a father and he was forever grateful that he was able to raise Shelly and Rob as his own children. Jim was always there to support his wife in her business ventures and he was always present for his children at all of their activities. He lived a life of servitude that will impact his family for generations.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Dianne; daughter, Michelle (Shelly) Turvey-Albert (Chad); brother, Jerry Jagielski (Diane); numerous grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. As an animal lover, he also leaves behind numerous cats; and his son's dog, Harley.
