James Lorenzen Obituary

James A. Lorenzen

December 27, 1946 - March 19, 2022

James A. Lorenzen, 75, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Otterbein Sunset House. He was born on December 27, 1946, in Bowling Green, Ohio at Wood County Hospital to Virginia and Thomas L. Lorenzen. He attended Martin Elementary School, McTigue Jr. and graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1965.

Jim played in various bands and groups throughout his life. Jim was fortunate to play with Harold Ried and Gene Parker for 4 years at the Mid-Way Nite Club. He also played for 3 years in the Perrysburg High School Band and Marilynettes Drum and Baton Corp, where they performed in Washington D.C. in 1960 President John F. Kennedy Inaugural Parade including a drum solo on the White House lawn for President Kennedy the following day. Over the years, Jim preformed for Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, Kennedy, and Johnson.

In 1966, following high schoo,l Jim enlisted in the Army and served a tour in Vietnam. While in basic training he would travel back to Perrysburg as often as possible which is when a young lady, Carol Herman, caught his eye while working at a local candy shop. Their courtship started on his breaks and continued throughout his military service. They wrote almost daily to each other and when he returned he asked for her hand in marriage. Jim married Carol L. Herman on July 19th of 1969, and together raised their son, Brian and 2 daughters, Ann and Sarah.

Jim's love of music turned into a broadcasting career in 1970 with Susquehanna Broadcasting at WLQR where he worked for over 14 years in Ohio and Virginia. After the company sold in 1990, Jim moved back to Ohio and started 94.5 WXKR. Jim was the General Manager of WXKR and Toledo's Classic Rock was brought to the Toledo market. Following WXKR in 1994, Jim started Jazzy 97.3. After the sale of Jazzy, Jim moved to 105.5 as the GSM which is where he met TK (Tom Klein.) Following his career at 105.5 he obtained his real estate license and was an active agent until 2001. During 2001, Tom reached out to Jim and pitched the idea of starting their own broadcasting company together. In 2002, BAS was born where Jim served as the President from 2002-2016 during this time they purchased several radio stations together throughout Ohio. After retiring from BAS, he returned to real estate career until his full retirement.

Jim was a faithful member of All Saints Catholic Church, where he was active in their bowling league, festivals, the church choir and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of Knights 4th Degree, American Legion, VFW, Jaycees, Golf League for K.O.C. During the 70's and 80's he also served several terms as a Rossford City Council member, as well as a little league baseball and flag football coach. Throughout his life Jim was a huge Ohio State Fan and spent many Saturday's hosting gameday parties while serving his famous margaritas.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Tom Lorenzen; mother, Virginia (Jones) Lorenzen; brother, Larry Lorenzen; and his beloved wife of 52 years, Carol L. Lorenzen. Jim was a wonderful friend of mine, especially with the Rossford Jaycees. He was a very active person and did so much for his family and community. His ability to do more than one thing at a time was a special trait. His friends special comment was always, how do get it all done. He did. A wonderful community leader and doing things for others was his gift to our area. May God Bless his family and friends. Ed
