James Meredith Obituary

James "Jimmy" I. Meredith

9/17/1941 - 10/13/2025

James I. Meredith "Jimmy," passed away peacefully at his home in Toledo, OH, on October 13, 2025, at the age of 84.

Jimmy was an avid bowler and golfer. His skill was known and admired throughout Toledo. On the lanes, he achieved the rare feat of bowling 300 games and on the golf course, his luck and talent were equally impressive, having notched holes-in-one.

He had a unique ability to tell a joke or funny story, if he didn't crack himself up before getting to the end. Jimmy was a source of entertainment for all who knew him. He was also notoriously stubborn, but loved dearly by his family and friends.

In his final months, Jimmy was cared for by family, to whom we express an unmeasurable amount of appreciation and love - his niece, Julie Gruss; sisters, Judy and Peggy; and especially his niece, Jamie Vossen, who stayed with him and lovingly took care of all of his needs for his last few weeks.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Heartland Hospice - Rob and Vanessa - for their care and assistance.

Jimmy will be greatly missed by his surviving family: his son, Christopher; his brother, Ed; and his five sisters, Judy Gruss, Peggy Spradlin, Debbie Meredith, Cathy Meredith, and Mary Nirschl. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Maggie; his brothers, David and Tom; and his sister, Patty Thiel.

In keeping with Jimmy's no-fuss spirit, there will be no memorial service. Instead, his family asks that all who knew him simply have a beer and think of Jimmy. It's the perfect way to remember a life well-played.
