James Stein Obituary

James "Jim" Martin Stein

April 22, 1943 - April 16, 2024

Jim, lifelong Toledo resident, was the son of the late Martin and Verna Stein. He graduated from Macomber and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Kuhnle. They shared 59 years of marriage filled with love and laughter. Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy; his sons, Marty and Roger; his daughter, Jeannette (John Russell); grandchildren, Blake Whitmore (Jake Palmer), Bailey Whitmore, Grant Will, and Amanda Stein.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. This commitment reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism. Following his military service, he was a respected supervisor known for his work ethic and integrity. He retired from Dana/Eaton Corporation and Toth Industries.

Jim had a vibrant personality, characterized by his sense of humor and love for music. He was also a regular on the golf course and was the secretary in the Dana retiree golf league for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, chess, and stayed active with weight lifting. Jim was an avid sports fan who did not miss any chance to cheer on the Wolverines.

Throughout his life, Jim was generous with his time and skills. He was driven to give back to others. He was known as someone who had every tool and could fix anything. He was always willing to help. As a devoted donor to the Red Cross, Jim contributed over 60 gallons of blood and plasma. Jim served as a BSA leader for Pack 113 at Greenwood Elementary, served Troop 70 and was Advancement Chairman for the Commodore Perry District. He also volunteered as chauffeur and often entertainer for special education students at Lagrange Elementary. His contributions to the well-being of others will be remembered by many.

Above all, Jim was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was always there for others. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity. He will be greatly missed.
