Janet Murphy Obituary

Janet E. Murphy

11/17/1958 - 08/04/2025

Janet E. Murphy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories that will continue to resonate among her family and friends.

Born on November 17, 1958, Janet was known for her outgoing and adventurous spirit, which shone brightly in all aspects of her life. She dedicated 35 years of service as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, and before that, she brought smiles and joy as a cashier at Rudy's Hot Dog, where she worked off Summit Street in Toledo. It was at this very spot that a beautiful love story began; Janet and her husband, John Murphy, celebrated their first date there on August 3, 1976, and for the next 48 years, they would remember that significant day by returning to Rudy's, forever a special landmark in their journey together.

Janet's passion for life extended well beyond her work. She had a deep love for nature and could often be found feeding squirrels and deer, connecting with the beauty of the outdoors. Her affinity for nature inspired her children, as she would leave them notes adorned with cheerful images of bees and delightful sayings like "Bee Pretty, Bee Good, Bee Safe." Janet also shared a touching tribute with her family following the passing of her mother, getting matching tattoos of dragonflies-a symbol of transformation and love that will forever remind them of their bond.

Educated at Woodward High School and Whitney High School, Janet carried her love for adventure into her personal life, traveling to stunning destinations including Acapulco, the Maya Riviera, Puerto Vallarta, Aruba, St. Maarten, Los Cabos, Mexico and San Pedro, Belize. As an active and fun-loving individual, she embraced every opportunity to explore new horizons, bringing joy and excitement to those around her.

Janet's role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was her proudest accomplishment. She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, John Murphy; daughter, Diane Bailey; son, Eric (Brandy) Murphy; five cherished grandchildren, #1 Jannessa, #2 Jaelyn, #3 Autumn, #4 Payton, and #5 Sawyer; and her great-grandson, Carter. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, Chester Wood and Kaye (Joe) Burnep, who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Janet joins her departed parents, Charles and Thelma Wood; brother, Scott Wood; sister-in-law, Mary Wood; niece, Brandi Wood; and nephew, Charles Wood, who have greeted her with open arms beyond this life.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the amazing and kind hearted staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Regency LTC and Three Meadows Acute Care Center. The family would also like to recognize and thank the doctors, nurses and support staff of Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center, especially those in Car2 unit.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Janet's life during visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, on August 13, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service starting at 7:00 p.m. The warmth of her spirit and the love she has imparted will be cherished eternally, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
