John Russell Gist died surrounded by his family on May 2, 2021 in Sylvania OH. He was born to Nathan Russell and Christine (Johnson) Gist on October 29, 1930 in Toledo OH. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School and University of Toledo. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 1342 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo OH 43612 with a memorial service following with Pastor Kelly Ketchum officiating. Masks are required at this time. The family invites friends to a luncheon at Sylvania Country Club, 5201 Corey Road, Sylvania, OH 43560.

Our family grew up around the corner from the Gists, with kids playing together and walking to school each day. The adults played bridge for decades together with two other couples from Augsburg church. John was an honorable man, who cherished his family and friends and served as an absolutely wonderful role model for the many young people he knew.
