John was a special friend. I knew of him as a fellow student at Libbey High School. I met him in late 1969 at the "Old Town Tap" where he was bartending. We were good friends until I moved out west in 1975 and lost touch with him. John tracked me down on Facebook approximately two years ago and we re-established our close friendship through long distance phone calls and FB messages. On the last message I received from John on FB messenger, he offered to send music to me in Vietnam. May you rest in peace John.

I met John during our freshman year at Libbey. We played football all four years, we did some double dating and some things we weren't supposed to do. We had a lot of fun and continued to have fun after Libbey. What a loss especially for Jim, Pat, and Skip. RIP old friend you will be missed(#55).

John like all the Marklands was a great friend to many. He laughed a lot, loved a lot, and did his share of good deeds. I can not begin to imagine how much his brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews will miss him. His friends and family will tell his stories and smile. Rest in peace good guy.
