John Meacham Obituary

John P. Meacham

John P. Meacham passed away peacefully in the Lakes of Sylvania, with his family at his side, on November 18, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1938, in Toledo, to Russell and Blanche Meacham. He was the husband of Barbara Meacham and together they shared 47 years of marriage.

He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator. He spent two years stationed in Germany, where he and his first wife, Nancie, gave birth to their first son, Michael. He also had the honor of being personally requested to sing for a General. John was employed for 34 years with the City of Toledo Health Department and worked as a sanitarian, inspecting places that sold and served food, eventually holding the position of Acting Commissioner.

John enjoyed singing, coin collecting, gardening, refinishing furniture, fishing and travelling. He enjoyed tropical fish and was a member of the Aquarium Society. He began singing at 6 years old. In 1960, he began singing barber shop music. He sang with quartets and the Toledo Chapter Chorus. Most recently, he sang with The Bowling Green Chapter of the Voices of Harmony.

John and Barbara traveled all over the 50 states in their motor home. During a European vacation in 2000, they visited Paris and were blessed to see the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, which was only performed once every ten years. John is remembered for his generosity, kindness, patience and big smile.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara; children, Michael (Cyndy) Meacham, Dennis (Janet) Meacham, Susannah Meacham, Jennifer (Mike Barnes) Meacham, Doris (John) Clement, and Pastor Robert (Karen) May; grandchildren, Samantha (Russell) Rockwell, Luc (Haley) Meacham, Ian (Sierra) Meacham, Adam (Amber) Meacham, Colin Meacham, Lindsey (Andy) Lange, Madeline (Ryan) Schiller, Bre Walentowski, Brandon Maraldo, Hannah May, Rebecca (Jack) Frecka, Amanda (Joe) Caig, and Ashely (Vinney) Dimasso; great-grandchildren, Elyse, Amelia, Maximus, Brady, Gino, Owen, Charlee, Freddy, Pierre, Oliver, Felix, and Barrett; sister, Judith Scherer; brother-in-law, Jerry Keefe; niece, Julie (Matt) Pacholski; nephew, Brian Scherer; great-niece, Macey Scherer; great-nephews, Ethan and Finlay Pacholski; special friends, Frank Scherer, Pam Bettinger, and Jason Villagomez; and many cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell (Vi) Meacham; and mother, Blanche Meacham.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Lakes of Sylvania staff for their wonderful care for John the last month.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., and again on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., where a Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bob May.
