TSCHANTZ John I. John I. . Tschantz, age 73, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006 at 1:45 a.m. at Wyandot County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky. John was born May 16, 1933, in Petersburg, West Virginia, to Irvin D. Tschantz, who is deceased, and Selma M. (Welch) Tschantz, who is living in Nevada, Ohio. John started his career as an audiologist in 1956- 57 in the Detroit League of the Handicapped. Then from 1957 to 1960 he was on staff with Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI as an audiologist. He then worked for The Clinical Audiologist Association with Dr. T. Manford McGee until 1974 when he moved to Nevada to oversee the Nevada Operations of the Handi Twine Knife Company. He was a life member of the Nevada Lutheran Church, Nevada, Ohio. Some of John's special interests included raising Morgan horses and restoring carriages. He was active in the theatrical productions at The Star Theater in Upper Sandusky and The Palace Theater in Marion, Ohio. He was a member of the Wyandot County Historical Society and enjoyed collecting antiques. John graduated from Nevada High School in 1951. He then went on to Heidelberg College in Tiffin with an AB Degree in 1955. John went to graduate school at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, OH from 1955-56, then graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Audiology from Wayne State, Detroit MI in 1963. John is survived by his mother: Selma Tschantz of Nevada, Ohio; nephew, Joel (Patty) Tschantz of Maumee; niece, Gail (Rob) Cook of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nephew, Paul Hansen of Jinx, Oklahoma; sister in law, Dayna Tschantz of Upper Sandusky, OH and brother in law, Donald Hansen of Jinx, Oklahoma. John was preceded in death by his father Irvin and 1 sister, Nancy Hansen and 1 brother, Dr. Richard Tschantz. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home (419-294-1985) in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Memorials may be made to Nevada Lutheran Church and/or the Wyandot County Historical Society and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
