Joseph
Joseph Fanelli, 90 years old, most recently of Sunset House in Ottawa Hills, passed away on March 15, 2014. Joe was a soft-spoken, loving, caring, and gentle man. He always had a smile on his face and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Joe was born in Calciano, Italy, December 22, 1923. He served in WWII in Italy, and in 1949 he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. He worked for National Lead for 17 years in Buenos Aires. He met his wife, Maria, in Argentina and had been married since 1952. In 1966, Joe and his family moved to Toledo, Ohio at the request of his employer. Joe worked for Doehler Jarvis until his retirement in 1992.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters in Italy. He is survived by his wife, Maria; his daughters, Monica (Michael) Kernahan, Patricia (Peter) Reynolds; son, George Fanelli; grandchildren, Shannon (Craig) Revill, Jennifer Kernahan, Chris Kernahan, Shaleah (Vince) Soliven, Kayla Fanelli, Keriann Fanelli, Sophia Reynolds, Jack Reynolds, Giovonni Fanelli, Vincent Fanelli; great-grandchildren, Isabella Revill, Isaac Revill, Sydney Soliven.
The family would like to thank everyone that has taken such wonderful care of Joe during his long illness. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bersticker - Scott Funeral Home. Joe was a great man whom I was blessed and honored to have known. His wisdom bridged any differences that language might have tried to hinder. His gentle spirit is something I will always aspire to. Of this I have no doubt, that there was an entourage of saints waiting with open arms at his arrival. God bless you Maria, Patty, Monica and George. Please know my prayers are with you. Thank you for having shared a small part of your lives with me.

Our hearts are broken to hear of Joe's passing. You were such great neighbors to us and our boys. Joe and I had a lot of conversations on gardening and how to keep each others lawns looking better than all the neighbors. I'll always remember his loving smile.

Maria and the whole Fanelli family I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was truly amazing and I was blessed and honored to be apart of his life for two years with volunteering through Ashanti Hospice. Joe will be missed dearly along with his beautiful smile.
