Joseph J. Jake JAKAB Sr.

JAKAB Joseph J."Jake" Sr. W8TGG Joseph J. "Jake" Jakab Sr., age 95, of Toledo, died on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Jake was born on Wednesday, March 14, 1917, to John and Barbara (Kovacs) Jakab in Toledo, Ohio. He served his Country in WWII as a Staff Sgt with Company B, 3119th Signal Service Battalion where he earned his Asiatic Pacific Theater Robbon. Jake was a Ham radio operator, holding a First Class amateur radio license. He owned and operated Rite TV and Radio Repair shop and later was employed with General Tire and Rubber Co. where he retired. His early school years began with St. Stephens grade school, a graduate of Waite H.S. and a graduate of the University of Toledo earning his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Jake was a member of Good Shepherd Church for over 50 years and was an avid fisherman, bowler, and followed Tiger baseball on TV and radio. Jake is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Toka) in 2004; daughter, Margaret Rose Jakab; grandsons, Gregory Jakab and Jay Welsh, and brothers, John Jacobs and Jim Jacob. Surviving are his children, Joseph J. Jakab Jr. of Jensen Beach, FL, Betsy (Jack) Welsh of Oregon, OH, Meri Jakab of Toledo, OH, Susan (Russell) Urban of Napoleon, OH, and Paul Jakab of Oregon, OH, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation at the Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon Ohio will begin on Sunday, May 6, 2012, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with his scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., followed by his Mass of Christian burial 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church.
