Joseph McArdle Obituary

MC ARDLE Joseph Withrow On November 10, 2006, Joseph Withrow McArdle died peacefully at his home in South Strafford, Vermont, following an extended illness. He was born on April 27, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio the son of the late Allan and Joann (Withrow) McArdle. He and Sarah Toy (Tinka) were married in 1969 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Following their wedding, they lived in Perrysburg, Ohio. Mr. McArdle worked for the Toledo Pressed Steel Company (TPS), a three-generation, family, manufacturing company supplying metal stampings for the automotive industry. In 1987, the McArdles moved to Greenville, SC, where Mr. McArdle established a new division of TPS, Fountain Industries of Fountain Inn, SC. Following his retirement, they moved to Little Switzerland, North Carolina, where Mr. McArdle studied woodworking at Penland School of Crafts. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Toy McArdle of South Strafford, VT; a son Dr. Christopher and his wife Angie McArdle of Falmouth, MA; a daughter, Dr. Eliza McArdle of Easthampton, MA; a sister, Christine McGuire of Asheville, NC, and a brother-in-law, Dr. John E. Lee of Atlanta, GA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 18, 2006, at 3 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to; St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock, Habitat for Humanity, American Prairie Foundation, Bozeman, Montana, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Gary and I were saddened to read of Joe's passing. We have fond memories of our families together. We hope you all can find solace in remembering all of his good works. Jan and Gary Samples (and Elizabeth and Julie from afar).

My sorrow is with you. I worked at TPS with Joe from 1975 to 1980. He and his father Allan were some of the most wonderful people. It was like family. I have always remembered them very fondly.
