Joseph O'Sickey Obituary

O'SICKEY

Joseph Benjamin

Joseph Benjamin O'Sickey, 94, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013. Joseph was born in Detroit, MI on November 9, 1918, to parents, Joseph T. and Helen O'Sickey. Mr. O'Sickey was a resident of Kent, OH, and was retired from Kent State University, where he was an art professor and art department chair 25 years. He also was a former member of the faculties of Case Western Reserve and Ohio State University. Art was his life; not only did he teach, but he was also a professional artist. Joseph was a WWII veteran where he was stationed in Oran, Algeria, Assam (Bangladesh), India and Burma. Most important to Joseph was his love for, and relationship with, his late wife, Algesa. Joseph met and fell in love with Algesa in 1946 and they were married on August 2, 1947. They continued a personal and professional relationship through mutual respect and admiration for each other until Algesa's death in 2006. Both Joseph and Algesa were renowned artists in their own right, not only in Ohio, but nationally as well.

Survivors include his son, Joel O'Sickey, and his caregiver of eleven years, Sammi Riley. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Algesa (nee D'Agostino), to whom he was married for 59 years; his brothers, Benjamin, Daniel, Robert, and his sister, Agnes Bauer.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will occur at a later date. Condolences and memories may be shared at
