Joseph Ravary Obituary

Joseph L. Ravary

Joseph L. Ravary, 90, of the Point Place Community, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Parkcliffe of Northwood.

Joseph was born March 18, 1932, in Temperance, Michigan, to the late Louis and Gertrude (Cousino) Ravary. Known as "Joe" to all he met, he is most remembered as fun, loving guy who always found ways to enjoy life. Joe was employed with CSX Railroad at the coal docks and retired after 28 years. He was a member of Local 8 Electrical Union for 55 years and was a dedicated volunteer as St. Vincent DePaul for 50 years. Joe could always be found walking the isles of St. John's Baptist Church where he blessed others with preparing funeral luncheons, served as a Eucharistic Minister and spoke at Sunday services as lay reader, among other things. A lifetime member of Old News Boys and Friendship Park, Joe was known throughouthis life as giving man always ready to help those in need. As a young man he became enthralled with building things and it was a love that he nurtured most of his life. He joined Habitat for Humanity and over the course of 10 years he had a hand in building 200 homes in Arizona. Joe joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served his country in the Korean War as an electrician third class until he was honorably discharged in 1955. After returning from the war he met and fell fast for a young, beautiful war widow named Isabelle whom he married in 1955. If asked he would tell you that he would have married "Lightening" the day he met her if she would've had him but no matter how long it took she was always worth the wait. Throughout their lifetime together Joe and Isabelle were blessed with six children, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a lot of laughter, a lot of tears, and a lot of love.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his faithful wife. Isabelle; son, Joe; and two brothers, Paul and Roy. He is survived by his children, Greg Scherrer, Brenda Lake, Stuart Ravary, John Ravary (Sarah) and Daniel Ravary (Bernadette); six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m., Deacon Mark Genovesi, presiding. Interment will be private.
