June VanDyke Obituary

June Van Dyke

June Arda Van Dyke, age 90, passed on to her heavenly home on March 4, 2023, following a stroke, with her loving family at her side.

She was married to her beloved husband, Roger, for 61 years and they raised their family in Royal Oak, MI. They were world travelers and belonged to the Nomads travel group. They also planned Elderhostel trips with each grandchild which allowed them to have special time with them and create lasting memories. She moved to Sylvania, OH in 2018, almost 2 years after Roger passed away, to be closer to her eldest daughter.

She was losing her vision due to macular degeneration but had not lost her spirit. Last December she was a bell ringer for The Salvation Army. She said "there are many things I can't do, but I can ring a bell" and she was a determined bell ringer for 3 hours! June was a long-time member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and belonged to chapters in both Royal Oak and Sylvania.

She was very proud of her family. Showing love in thoughtful ways was a focal point in June's life and her grandchildren can attest to that. They will forever cherish the warm memories of special outings, challenging Easter egg hunts, playing Pegity together, and attendance at their activities.

For the past 4+ years, she lived at Kingston Residence of Sylvania, where she took special interest in getting to know people and their life stories. She enjoyed the in-house musical entertainment, church services, and the bible study group. The family is very grateful for the care she received.

June is survived by 3 daughters, Linda (Steve) Haubert of Sylvania, Marcia (Don) Trevarthen of Plymouth, MN, and Karen (Ken) Knister of Cascade Township, MI; her sister; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother; and a grandson.

A small chapel service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, 529 Hendrie Blvd, Royal Oak, MI 48067 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023, where June and Roger were active members for 50 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or Macular Degeneration Research. The Salvation Army of NW Ohio, 620 N Erie St., Toledo, OH 43604, https://easternusa.salvationarmy.org/northeast-ohio/northwest-ohio/ or BrightFocus Foundation, Attn: Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871, check payable to Macular Degeneration Research.

I just learned of June´s passing today as I was singing for my Kingston residents. I was wondering where she was because she rarely missed a performance. I was shocked and heartbroken at hearing she had passed. What a Light and Spark she was. We´ll meet again. Don´t know where. Don´t know when, but I know we´ll meet again some sunny day
