Kenneth Howell Obituary

Kenneth L. Howell

Kenneth L. Howell, 74, of Oregon, OH, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born in Sandusky, OH on May 7, 1943 to Harry and Dorothy (Jones) Howell. He was raised in Harbor View and graduated from Clay High School in 1962. Following high school, Ken lived in Danville, OH, with his uncle and aunt, Demp and Lillian Jones. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On May 18, 1968, he married the love of his life Gail Hitchcock. For 32 years, Ken worked as a transport driver for Marathon Oil Company, Oregon Terminal, retiring in 1998. Following retirement, he was a school bus driver for Lake Local Schools and spent time with friends at Reloaders One-Stop. His memberships included: St. Mark Lutheran Church and a 32nd Degree Mason of Paragon Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed trap shooting with Don Petroff & Dave Crandall. Ken's true love was his family and proudly hosted a 4th of July party for many years. He enjoyed yearly trips with Gail to her niece Julie & Tim Wehnert's home in Pennsylvania to celebrate their great niece Paige's birthday and to Ohio Amish Country with friends. Ken enjoyed family vacations with his grandchildren and attending their school events and sports games. Ken loved being a grandpa; he cherished taking Drake to karate and dining on Marco's Cheezy Bread and was the smiling face Adrienne and Braden saw hopping on the school bus. He will be remembered for his generosity towards others and as "Mr. Fix-It" to his family and friends.

Ken is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gail; daughter, Jodi (Kevin) Alore; grandchildren, Drake Howell, Adrienne Alore, and Braden Alore; brothers, Ralph (Kathy) Haney, Larry (Donna) Howell, Richard Howell; sisters, Bonnie (Floyd) Pierce, and Carol (Fred) Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Sharron (James) Shuler, Janet Howell, and Linda Howell; godchildren, Staci (Joe) Collins and Greg (Mariola) Shuler; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Howell; brothers, Donald Howell and Thomas Howell; and nephew James Howell.

The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., where a Paragon Masonic Lodge service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 26, 2018 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Ken's family wishes to thank the staff of Parkcliffe of Northwood and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care.
