Kenneth SPAULDING Obituary

SPAULDING Kenneth Paul Kenneth Paul Spaulding, 90, was born in Toledo, OH on June 22, 1921, to the late Clayton and Jenny Heidet Spaulding. Kenneth was the youngest of their five children. He lived much of his life in the home in which he was born. Ken attended McKinley Elementary School. He graduated from Thomas DeVilbiss High School in 1940. After high school, Ken worked at the Willys-Overland Co. producing the original WWII Jeep. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and served his country with pride. In October 1943, he married Edith Nelson in Cleveland, OH. They resided in Toledo where they reared their three children. They moved to Jackson, TN in December 1997. From the time he was very young, Ken had a "job". He was a newsboy and a stock clerk in a corner grocery. He worked in a print-shop/bindery, Ohio Lithographing and Len Beach Assoc., until he retired. After retiring, Ken worked as a courier for the Whitman Ford Co. in Temperance, MI. Ken and his family were charter members of the West Toledo YMCA. He joined the Y's Men's International Service Club. He served as president of the W.T.Y's Men's Club for three terms. He was a delegate to the International Convention in Copenhagen, Denmark and attended many regional conventions. Ken was a member from his birth of the Monroe Street United Methodist Church in Toledo. He joined the Presbyterian Church upon moving to Jackson, TN; first the Westminster Presbyterian Church, then joyfully in 2004, he joined the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed greeting worshippers and doing small, important tasks around the church. He especially enjoyed The Tuesday Morning Men's Coffee Group (The Grumpies) and their many activities. As a young father, Ken was active in the Cub and Boy Scouts. He was troop leader. He also coached a church league baseball team. He was very active with the children in the YMCA. He taught his children and many of their friends how to drive a car. He was always on call when they needed him. For fun, Ken golfed every chance he could. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He and Edie were members of the Lamplighters Dance Club. Ken and his brother, Gene, built a cottage on Hemlock Lake, MI, that gave his family years of fun. Ken's family includes, wife, Edith; daughters, Kenedie (Gary) Kreutzer of Jackson, TN and Cynthia Spaulding of Jackson, TN; son, Keith Spaulding of Toledo, OH; six grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. A memorial service for Kenneth Spaulding will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor John White officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Arrington Funeral Directors, 148 W. University Parkway 731-668-1111. arringtonfuneralgroup.com

Dear Aunt Eddie,

I will always remember coming over to your house as a child and Uncle Kenny with his gentle manner and smiling face - both of you always excited to see us (Nathan and me) - the feeling mutually exclusive. I remember your warm living room and everyone laughing and telling stories. I regret that we lost touch when you moved (I was a child) and now realize how important it is to keep in touch and would love to connect with you. My husband (Michael) and I are truly sorry for your loss; when I heard the news I reflected back and remembered and conveyed to him the memories I have with Uncle Kenny and you. Our thoughts are thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Love,

Jordan Shulak-Crichton

Dear Aunt Edie,
Although it has been some time since I last saw you and Uncle Kenny, I have wonderful memories to remember him by. He was such a wonderful and giving person and always in great spirits. I truly believe that his enthusiasm for cars (and especially his Fords) really had an impact on me and my appreciation for not only a nice car but taking good care of it and making it last. I will always remember coming to your home in Toledo for many family gatherings and especially all the Easter egg hunts...that was always a lot of fun and a great time. Your home was always so warm and inviting and filled with a beautiful family atmosphere. Thank you so much for all the photos you have recently sent me, I really appreciate them and was actually just reflecting back on them last night while I read his obituary and recounted stories about him to my wife Mindy. He was like a grandfather to me that I never had on the Spaulding side of our family. My memories of you and Uncle Kenny are nothing but positive ones. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time. Love, Nathan Shulak

Edie...I was so sorry to read Ken's obituary. It seems so long ago that I was your baby sitter for Candy, Cindy and Keith. You paid me $.25 an hour and I was thrilled. God bless you and your family. I've thought of you all many times. Bev

I certainly do remember Mr and Mrs Spaulding greeting us each Friday night at the "Y" dances. What special folks and what special memories we have!
My thoughts are with the Spaulding family. Candy, it was so nice talking with you in January.

To The Spaulding Family,

Mr. Spaulding was always one of my favorite people. My Grandmother Agnes Racine lived across the street on Bowen Road and my Wife Karen and I lived in the house from 1986-1993. Mr. Spaulding always had a positive word and was the first one on the block to shovel the snow and had one of the best looking places in the area. When I was 12 years old Mr. Spaulding gave me a ride in his Model "T" Ford (Have a picture of Proof) and will never forget the experience. He told me that Ford is the only car to drive and I have owned no less than 30 Fords in my 39 years of driving. The latest is a 2012 Explorer and I thought of Mr. Spaulding with every Ford purchase. We will keep your family in our prayers. What a great family man and what a great life!

With my heartfelt deepest sympathy to the Spaulding family. Although I didn't know Grandpa Spaulding very well, I have heard many wonderful stories about what an awesome and inspiring man he was. May he rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.
