Larry S. Croy

Larry S. Croy, 70, a lifelong resident of Perrysburg, OH, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Toledo on September 20, 1947 to Paul R. and Alice M. (Verhoff) Croy. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1965.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, Luann Kazmaier on July 6, 1966 in Monroe, MI. Over nearly 52 years of marriage, Larry and Luann distinguished themselves as a couple and accomplished a lot together both personally and professionally. In addition to building several successful businesses together, they travelled extensively for the past 15 years and during that time, developed close ties to St. Kitts, an island community in the British West Indies.

Larry was an entrepreneur and a talented chef who trained as an Executive Chef in several Toledo-area country clubs before getting his start in the restaurant business in 1981 with the purchase of Joe Braden's Supper Club. Eight years later, Larry and Luann opened Croy's Supper Club at a new location in Perrysburg. It became a wildly popular local establishment known for its excellent food, exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere. Larry started his current company, LarMar Foods Garlic Expressions in 1993 with his son Mark Croy. The Perrysburg-based company now sells its salad dressing and marinade product all over the country.

Larry was a loving father, grandfather and brother who put family at the center of his life. He was especially dedicated to being "Paw Paw" to his seven grandchildren and was directly involved in each of their lives. Larry was also a friend to many people of all stripes in his lifetime. He was an extremely generous and big-hearted person who invested his time and talents in family, friends and community. Everyone who met him liked him and he will be deeply missed by a loving extended family and friends from near and far.

Larry is survived by his wife, Luann Croy; children, Alicia (John) Hanlon, Mark Croy and Gina (Michael) McClellan; grandchildren, Zachary, Luke, Jonathan, Natalie, Tyler, Darin and Grant; brother, Randy R. (Nancy) Croy; and sister, Laura (Dave) Wott.

Friends will be received at Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg (419-874-3133) on Thursday, April 12 from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, April 13, 2018 in the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Leyland officiating. Dear Luann,

I was so shocked when Peggy text me about his passing. I am so glad to have known you both over the years (as a cousin-in-law). I am also glad I got the chance to see you both recently at the TSO at the Peristyle. I will always remember him with his tam and friendly smile. He always reminded me of the late Harry Chapin. He will be miss for sure! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and Larry's brother and sister, too.

Just had to send our condolences upon reading about Larry's passing. We were on that famous "See No Northern Lights Trip" to Iceland that you were also on. We happened to sit by you at several of the dinners and on the bus and just enjoyed the conversation. Of course, all knew Larry and his Tam. Our prayers are with you.

My sincere condolences to the Croy family. I worked for Larry at Inverness Club & whether it was catering, wedding receptions, buffets or fine dining Larry was a unique one of a kind Head Chef. Larry had a passion & tremendous talent in all areas of the restaurant industry. Most of all, he was always Creative & delivered a finishing touch that was first class.

We met Larry and Luann in St. Kitts many, many years ago. I would see Larry in his Tam walking down the road picking up trash. He cared about St. Kitts. Whenever I saw that Tam I knew Larry was on Island. Larry and Luann stopped at our house the day they left St. Kitts for a glass of wine and a beer. It will be a memory I will keep for a lifetime. Luann and family we are so sorry for your loss....but we are sorry too that we lost a good friend.
